hey guys i was helping my buddy clean out his garage and we found some 7in monitors from his old honda project and he let me have them but only one worked
just so happens i got a ps3 fat that i bought for 20 bucks (guy said it had a ylod and a 40 gb when i get home bam it works and with a 250 gb hdd lol)
is there anyway i can cut out the plastic and strip the 7 inch lcd and mount the lcd
on the case? like embedded
the power source for the lcd is 12v and it has rca hook ups yellow red and white
i dont mind tearing it apart and soldering
-
you will have strange but maybe good results if you can hide it behind the smoked clear shell.
-
well any thought its a original 80 gb its super duper clean condition with no dust
runs smooth on CFW 3.55
and it actually has a warranty sticker intact and with a 250 gb hdd installed
guy was an idiot
should i even open her up or try it on another ps3
-
That's on you, I look at it I wouldn't do a sick mod on something that was broke , unless I had to fix it and I was sure it was fixed. "So if it ain't broke don't fix it." =my mom. lol. Anyways It is one of those things that is not an easy mod , but might be quite rewarding.
-
i really dont mind opening it up i have 2 ps3 slims one for online and one for homebrew
i just bought this one to fix a busted blu ray
i really dont mind the challenge im not a dumbass
just need maybe like a diagram
-
Then do it... LOL
-
why im here buddy for the great acidmodders to shine some light on me :help:
either that or ima sell it
only thing i dont have is a ps3 controller to go with it
-
Sorry man I hope that didn't come out wrong, it was meant as encouragement . I have a couple Ps3's and when i got enough of them to be reliable , I started modding them. Since you have extra, I meant whats holding you back?
Your first step would be breaking down the lcd and see how small you can get it.
Next you want to break down your Ps3 and probably do the thermal paste on it and clean it while you have it open.
Then try to see where it can fit. I recommend if it all ready CFW , if you need the room , remove the drive. But don't do this yet... You will need to install CFW for no BR first. You will want to try and keep your br controller out of the drive so you can install pkg's.
I hope i didn't sound like a jerk before.
-
naw i didnt get offended or anything
just trying to get input on what i can do
i think there will be to much bull :censored: to take out the drive etc just to install stuff as it works fine the console works like cherry
so im planning on leaving that in there i have this old ps3 i had in my closet and i was messing with the power cable and i found 12v and after some tinkering i got power to the lcd
now to get video i can do it the easy way and run an external video cable but comeon.....wheres the fun in that
im look for a pinout of the video
but im worried if i can get the video working can i be able to switch between which video source i want like if i get my mod working and say i wanna take it onto a hdtv will it work
-
I have actually thought of this before. Yes you can. I think I found video pinouts for fats at one point...
From left to right viewing the rear of the console.
1 Ground (Analog Audio)
2 Analog Audio Right
3 Ground (Video)
4 Analog Audio Left
5 S-Video Y (luminance)
6 Composite Video/RGB Composite Sync*
7 S-Video C (chrominance)
8 Ground
9 Cb/RGB Blue*
10 +5Volt
11 Cr/RGB Red*
12 Y/RGB Green*
*signals require circuitry external to the console

Ive been reaing this topic and i was about to post the same exact thing lol, I hope this works out edokassiah Because it sounds like its going to be awesome lol.
-
well guys after drinking a bit....dont judge me lol
i got video to work but it gets choppy as hell hmmm ima keep messing with it
hmm it looks awesome for what it is but i feel like its more of a novelty i couldnt play a round of blk ops for crap screen is to dam small its a 7inch and thats b4 the video gets choppy
only reason i wanted to do this is because late night i wake up and wanna play or mess around with the ps3(not like that ) and my gf hates the tv on late night interferes with her ugly sleep i guess
oh yeah i got the other screen working seems like the power wire was detaching from the board brought out old betsy(soldering iron) and worked maybe a dual screen now? lol
ps SAMMY follow the video pin out and strip the lcd as much as u can what i can advise so far
EDIT
my choppy video is still there i looked at my soldering and some o fthe wires were in fact touching but after redoing it im getting the same results weird because say i boot it up and after about 20 mins or so it gets snowy/video breaking up
and also out when i have the 7in connected and i hook up an hdmi cable to my tv and ps3 itll stay on the small lcd which i didnt want maybe i need a switch of some sort to change the video output
-
Maybe for switching the video inputs (rca/hdmi) you could install a sliding switch next to the monitor that when in one position the rca wires are connected and in the other position the wires are disconnected. Yes its the obvious solution but you would have to know how the inputs are coded and wired to determine how they prioritized them. My 2cents.
Seems like a sick mod though, would def be difficult to see stuff on it but great if you dun have a tv available.
-
Guys did I miss something... You know you can switch the video from the XMB? I have had a 5 inch hooked up as a second display before but you had to switch back and forth from regular and HDMI from XMB. I wonder what happens when you hook up standard cables to sd tv and have the lcd hooked up?
You video problem could be your lcd? maybe to much heat or not enough power?
I would test by hooking up to sd tv cables. If the problem persists its something you might have messed up on the video side of the ps3 when you had a short.
-
i know i can change the video output thru XMB but that sucks why am i gonna go thru all that trouble im still trying to figure out if i can add a video selection swtich of some sort
and its not the lcd because i hooked up the power source and i attached it to a dvd player while using the ps3 power source and it works fine i even tried the 2nd lcd i got and i get the same result
dont think i got a short because when i desolder everything and get it back to normal everything works without a hitch :dntknw:
i uno my head hurts
when i hook up standard cables (rca) video side of it and hook up hdmi i dont get a video output change its like the ps3 doesnt see the hdmi cable
ima go back to the drawing board stupid lcds
