Title: Xbox 360 Controller Redisgn
Post by: drummerdude on December 06, 2011, 02:10:26 PM
I started this project a while back, and never finished it. Decided to take a look at it today, and I didn't like what i had already done, so im restarting! I just ordered a controller, So i will do the inside stuff later, but for now, Im working on the case.

12-6-11
All I have done so far is just cut the holes where the d-pad, and the left anolog stick used to be.

12-7-11
I cut the anolog piece from another shell and fitted it. Next, Ill work on attaching the peice to it.

12-10-11
I fiberglassed the old left anolog location. When that dries, I attach the new anolog peice into the new hole. I also moved the analog stick itself.

The fiberglass took like 6 hours to dry, so I couldn't do anything else yesterday. This morning I filled the fiberglass with some bondo, and now I'm gonna go buy some wet sandpaper so I can sand that thing down.

looks good, are you doing anything for a d-pad?

Unfortunetly no. I did however do the ps2 dpad for my last redisgn, but it came out like poop. I hate to do this, but im gonna just do tact switches  :sadno:. I will definetly do an awesome dpad for my next redisgn tho :)

EDIT: Nooo! my perfect paint job! Like just right now, I painted another coat on it, and on one of the sides, it is like peeing and looks ugly. What went wrong?

either sprayed it too soon, or you got oils from your hands on it, could just be too much paint there, let it dry for a couple of days wet sand it with like 1200grit, let it dry really good for a couple of days and make sure you dont touch it should be able to spray another coat of paint , then let that dry for 24 hours wet sand with 1500 or 2000 grit then let it dry  then clear coat it should turn out just fine.

Thanks for the advice. I thought about what phantom said, and i decided to restart again, but this time using a d-pad. I'm still keeping the mobo, just redoing the case. I will definitively take that into consideration when it comes time to paint it again tho. Thanks. Here's what I got after working a few hours on it today.
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1223.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd506%2Fgman_modz%2FIMG_20111214_213246.jpg&hash=c3f617e9e54356209c8bf7a9bc813052021e26ce)

EDIT: Im restarting again for the third time. The analog/dpad peices didn't stay in, prolly cause i didn't fiberglass them. So im restarting again, but using fiberglass so that way they don't crack and fall out. Im gonna try to get a lot done over the weekend.

12-18-11
Got a lot done this weekend. Fiberglassed/bondoed the pieces in. I panted the primer and did the first coat of the blue. It looks a bit dull cause I wet sanded the case just now.
