so the other day i traded a 21" tube TV for a fully functional PlayStation 3.
only problem was "the disc drive doesnt read cds", cleaned the laser lenses and took out money that had been shoved in the cd drive (a $0.10 coin) and after roughly an hour of fiddling with it i got it back in proper working order.
Its a 80GB ps3 with the two usb ports and no card reader, so if ive been told right, thats second generation.
i blew out most of the dust with some compressed air and assessed the case damage.
right off the bat its really scratched, the silver bar on the bottom part (with the usb ports) is missing and the top sliding cover has no clips left on it.
and theres no controller.
anywho, it doesnt play ps2 games.
ive searched but every link says to download some content on the psn, but the videos ive seen show that ps2 discs still dont show up.
i know that theres a converter for psp to make ps1 game eboots, does anyone know if theres something similar for the ps3 to play ps2 games like that?

if im right only the old 60gb ones play ps2 and no hack has been done for this yet!
get a new or second hand controller from ebay or a game store
ive only seen ps3 cases on ebay but very rare on there ( not sure about the us one)

you also need to check the serial number on the back. its something like cechnumbers. ps3 may look the same but the casses are completely different on the inside for different models

Only the 20gb 60gb and 80 GB(4 usb port) models are backwards compatible with ps2 games

i found a PS3 controller on DX for less than $20, gonna order one and see how it is, people say the analog sticks are kinda meh but for 1/3 of the price i cant argue.
i wish the OEM ps3 controllers werent so expensive D:

i bought a dx controller. i dont know :/ about it, its a bit iffy, it just feels wrong in your hands. just get a second hand OEM nothing can really compare

problem is the used OEM controllers are still $35+, and for a guy with no money thats a lot.

I can get refurbished ones for about $30 PS3 sixaxis dual shock 3 controllers
