Update: I can only finish the controller. At this point I have rushed to complete what I could which was the controller only. Here are the specs:
Orange and black paint.
Blue ROL swap, and custom guide button.
Glow-through images in the shell of the Magekyou and Sage eye patterns.
Custom USB programmable Rapidfire with advanced Color control (nicknamed Spectrum 360 mod).
Sticks and triggers have unlimited RGB color capability, with breathing effects and full-spectrum glowing in any frequency.
Completely Stealth design, no jacks or tacts anywhere. And 100% means that using the sync to change modes will not activate
the sync function (trace has been cut). Controller will only sync through the USB utility now.

Now for the final video:

OLD:
Lots of planning and prep work even before I take pictures of the hardware.
Concept: Themed X360 console and controller.
Pictures of unmoddified hardware:

I will be doing a Naruto Shippuuden case mod. The main colors will be Orange and Black. I have started ordering parts and supplies and will update as things progress. There will be some innovative lighting and window tricks. There will be a mix of new mods and standard mods.
I plan to show that a winning mod does not have to be something completely unique and insane, and that the standard method of case modding is not 'dull' and 'been done before'. A true mod is the attention to the little details and how the entire case looks as a whole, not just a bunch of fancy gadgets thrown together.

Supplies are rolling in.

I have paint also, but thats pretty boring until I start using it. The LED light strip is going to be fun. I already get to see it in action:
http://img831.imageshack.us/flvplayer.swf?f=Mxb6
I dont plan using the entire strip inside the case, a couple of these I plan to wire inside the controller as well. I can cut the tape just around the LED and it has adhesive backing.
More fun this weekend, I promise!

I've been looking at those RGB lights for awhile but never found a good way to use them. It will be interesting to see how you incorporate it. I also like the Simple yet attentive idea that you have.
-
The cool thing about the LED strips is you can cut out each individual RGB LED and wire it easily:
It has an adhesive backing too, in case I need it. I have also started painting the controller, using testors Fiery Orange:
One of my ideas was to create hidden lighting effects. This is a clear controller shell. During normal light, it looks like a regular painted controller, but if you mask off the inside with an image and light it from the inside, this is what you can see:
And thats with the lights on. This was just a test before I started clear coating. I plan to mask out Naruto images inside the controller and paint the inside black so that only the images will 'glow' through the exterior paint.
Other plans for the controller is clear thumbsticks and trigger that will use the RGB LEDs with a programmable lighting mod. I will also be lighting the menu button and changing the 'X' on it to the 'Hidden leaf' image from the anime.
More to come this weekend.

I like this... clean, yet different. Keep up the good work.

Diggin the burnt orange color ....and great idea also

Hey 6252..your ripping off 6232 LOL (sign typo's)

Shes been keeping better track than you have lol

Hey 6252..your ripping off 6232 LOL (sign typo's)
I was hoping noone would catch that.
So, I have more work done on the controller. Base coat done on the inside of the top of the shell. You can see where I masked off a couple of shapes:
Also, I have gotten some work done on fading the RGB LED with the RF chip:
http://img842.imageshack.us/flvplayer.swf?f=Pwsur
I need to complete the paint job, finish the RF stuff, swap some LEDs and maybe some more etching if I can fit it in.
-
Update: Still working on the controller. I have finished making a utility that lets me change the rapidfire and the color effects of the LEDs. Take a look!
http://img259.imageshack.us/flvplayer.swf?f=P6c9
You can set each color from 0 - 10. With all 3 LEDs, thats 1000 color choices! You can set them to be full solid on, breathing at different frequencies, or a special 'Spectrum' mode that rotates through all the colors.
I cant wait to get the controller assembled.
-
that looks so sweet :D nice work

I rushed to finish the controller only at this point. It was tough finding time. Painting and wiring was a challenge but well worth it. Maybe I can do the box for the next mod-off? Anyway, top page updated to show the video, but I have a couple more pics of the final day of progress:
The sync trace was cut and now the PIC controlls that through the utility. No more accidental syncs during a game. You can see in the video the guide button was painted with the hidden leaf symbol and came out as a nice touch.

Well this was fun. I would hope I have a running chance, but I do concede that the competition this mod-off is pretty fierce. Thanks for viewing my controller mod!

Please shoot me a PM about this!
I've been wanting for years now something that would let me create my own rgb led array. A programmable PIC would be nice, but no one that has worked on something like that is on anymore. I'd like to discuss with you how this works, and possibly purchase everything I need to get my own little project going. Thanks!

Hazer, amazing job on the controller. Now i think its time to release the program you made
-
I loved this. Great job. No presure, I hope its public. But if not I'd be happy with a kit.
I always wanted something different for displaying the modes.
PS3 support maybe?
-
I will be working on the schematics this week.
The entire source code will become public for both the PIC code and the PC utility. As it is now, there is room to add some glitches to the design (I am done arguing about gimmicks, its time to give everyone what they want).
I will also be releasing alot more than just that over the next few months. Get ready.
-
Yeah! HAZER is back.

I should have known it would be you!
You have no idea how big of a contribution this will be. Being able to program your own leds through a simple program? It's something i've always dreamed of!!!
I'm glad you're back contributing, it's just what the site needs. Great job!

This is why I voted for him, he did more than just mod a controller..

awww man! there i was thinking hazer has some competition again and then it turns out to be himself LOL!
Nice work :)
