what resistor would I need to make a 12v to a 9v 2200mah going to be trying the lcd screen in xbox 360 mod
-
You don't want a resistor.
You want a voltage regulator, I am unable to recommend what type unless you tell us the current needed (in mA or A).
-
trying to power a lcd screen and it needs 9v,s but theres only 12v 5v and 3.3v on the motherboard so a regulator will downstep it from a 12v to 9v?

Use three 9v regulators in parallel to get 3amps of current output. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=7809 (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=7809)
PLEASE USE A REGULATOR!!!
but... you can cheat and get away with not using a regulator or a resistor... I do NOT recommend this but hear me out.
Use the +12v as Positive and the +3.3v as ground...
ok why?...
12 - 3.3 = 8.7
You will have an 8.7v potential difference.

we are not talking in logic, we are talking in real world practicality,
use a voltage regulator.

Interesting... This is why I wish I knew more about electricity.
