Title: Launch controller modding. stock home led lighting.
Post by: 1TONpete on January 23, 2012, 06:58:15 AM
So a client gave me this to clean and fix. It had coffee spilled on it. He also wanted RF installed. When I first seen the controller I knew it was launch cause its transparent black and not dual shock.
I finally got done testing after cleaning and decided to start modding it. Well after closer inspection this is what I found. There appears to be a stock home led solder spot. with clear home rubber and clear button. No led installed. There is constant 2v there, and the ground is switched. But I cant turn the ground on, so I will be using this as my RF display.
Also notice the sixaxis is separate and not built into the board. A disabled gamer was asking about modding the sixaxis to a analog stick. I will be looking into this.
So here are some pics.

here it is installed. Ijumped the player 1 led ground to the gound on the home led. This is until i figure out the propper resistance then i will add a resitor off the ground on j5 (above right stick) to the trace hole spot next to the j5 for the home led ground.

there is mention of this 5th led on other modding sites, this is why when the ps3 came out most people was showing off on sites and youtube that they had leds but not everyone knew you could put a 5th led in anyway so people started buying off ebay ect.

nice reminder anyway but think most of the modders know this by now

Well either way its good info to have on site, this  is the first I heard of it. but it makes sense, and since this site is geared to psp and xbox more , it doesnt surprise me that we did not have info on here for it.

not many are into ps3 modding on here as one wrong move and the ps3 is dead leading people with $200+ bill lol

that is why i only uploaded my home led mod for 2rd gen plus and not the others but psp and xbox are cheap as hell now and parts are too easy to come by this is why there is more on xbox&psp than ps3 plus its all the kids mommys will buy them.

That isn't the Six-Axis that's separate from the board, it's the Gyroscope which is only a part of it. The majority of the Six-Axis functions come from the 3 axis Accelerometer on the board, top/left corner on the front side of the board, U9 on that controller, which is a HAAM-346A. The Six-Axis functions will still half work with the Gyroscope unplugged, but nowhere near as well as when it's on there. The Gyroscope should be kept in the same position and not messed with, it's the Accelerometer you need to deal with if you want to change how the controller reacts to tilting commands.
