So i blew my PS3 APS 231 power supply and wanted to use a ATX one instead. I've followed tutorials on it, everythings connected right, 12V, 5V and the PS-ON on the ATX has been bridged so i can turn it on with the switch. But when i turn the ATX on, the only thing that happens is my PS3's fan goes on, nothing else. I get no lights, not even the standby light. The standby light is supposed to go on and then i should be able to turn on the PS3 but that doesnt happen. Did i make mistakes in the wiring or is something wrong with the PS3?

Did you run 12 volts right to the main motherboard? also the PS3 works on the same bases as a ATX power supply . meaning just like you bridged the power supply so the ATX power supply works buy just turning it on.
So I am sure if you bridged the power supply so you have 12volts and 5volts working, and you wired the 12 volts to the motherboard it should work.
Not real positvie about it, but it should work, unless I am missing something.

PS3 mobo's have 12v in and out. You might need to run the out to the wire that is bridged. Unbridge first.

Yes i've connected both the 12V and 5V to the mobo. Everything should be fine as far as wiring is concerned. Here i took a pic.

What do you mean? I thought the PS3 outputs only 12V and 5V ?

i am not Positive and Maybe 1TONpete can answer this but isnt there a 3.3 volts that you need to power on the system? as a PC needs a load to start the power supply I beleive that the PS3 needs to reconize the 3.3v to power the console on.

the 2 prongs coming off mobo into power supply are 12v in and 12 v out. When I get a chance I'll re read this thread and try to figure this one out.

Wait, according to my knowledge one of the 2 prongs is +12V and the other is Ground... Maybe it has to do with my PS3 model, its a CECHG model

You probably meant Ground and +12v

but why all this when you can pick up the blocks for like 10$ just buy one and put it in this was really only ment for over clocking it for linux/games.

He could be adding liquid cooling or something? The power supply probably just needed its fuse replaced.

all he said was it blew but if it was that of the watercooling i would install but if it was just a cheap way than buying one then i would have just brought one.
have you checked on other tuts mate as you do know not every tut on the web will get stuff working and are missing parts of the tut
