Title: Anyone here work with Cisco routers/switches
Post by: MrPete1985 on July 13, 2012, 08:34:04 PM
I'm a student at ITT Tech and just started my first Cisco class, I found a USB to RS232 adapter so I can configure the router from my laptop.

I was wondering what terminal emulator everyone uses, the book says to use Hyper Terminal but Windows 7 does not come with it installed, I can copy Hyper Terminal from a Windows XP machine but as long as I am getting started I would like to try some other terminal emulators so I am looking for suggestions.

Thanks

Putty is an awesome free telnet, ssh, and terminal service.  It's how I always connect into my Nortel switch.

Just had my Cisco class last night, putty seemed to work very well, clean and strait to the point.  I think I will stick with it, now I just need to get myself a CCNA kit
