I can't see any markings on it...

Does it not matter?
I only ask because I set it up a couple times and the RF worked, but I couldn't change modes and it was already enabled. Pushing the button didn't do anything.

what pic are u using ?
most common switches would be a tact switch which are a few bucks at any local electronics store

I'm using the 12F168 I think... The common 8 pin one.
That was the most appropriate switch I found at 2 local Radioshack's and didn't see any of the normal type of thin tact switches I see around here.
-
common pic people use around here is a 12f683 and yes even fleabay has them type in tact switch and itll come up
ps odnt think radio shack would have them on the floor better of going to an electronics shop or ordering online
-
Is the switch the problem, though? The ones I have are SPST and I believe open.
Do you know about the grounding?
-
yeah more than likely the switch would cause it not to cycle try the ones i mentioned they work for mostly all rf set ups
-
Alrighty, I guess I'll finish up this try since I'm almost done anyway... Then tomorrow check around for hobby shops.
Yep didn't work. What wire should I be using? Yesterday I was using some thick stranded copper but it was way too thick, today I tried enamel-coated magnet wire which I'm hoping is alright since it's so much easier to handle with this.
-
30 awg trust me half the stuff people use nowadays have to be ordered unless u get real lucky and find parts locally
-
My Radioshack has 30AWG wire (That's the stuff I'm using now) and it's coated in enamel, which I'm not sure about. Is this stuff alright? It's title on the packaging was enamel-coated magnet wire. I'm worried about the enamel part, but I think it's used because it's much thinner than typical insulation.
-
30 awg kynar wire
thats the best wire to use imo stranded wire can be a :censored: to work with
-
sounds like your switch is normally closed. It should be momentary, normally open, SPST
as for your wire. do not use enamel coated magnet wire. the enamel can rub off and leave bare wire leading to shorts and fried equipment. Order kynar wire, or if you are limited to radio shack, use Wrapping wire. it comes in 28g white, red, and blue colors in stock at radio shack.
-
Alright I'm gonna order the stuff online now.
So I need new switches and kynar wire. I've got a desk with a load of crap on it that I'm only going to use rarely now haha.
What online store(s) would you guys recommend the most? Preferably with a warehouse in the states so I don't have to wait 2 weeks...
For the switches, I'm looking at these: http://www.digikey.com/catalog/en/partgroup/evq-pa-series/13071 (http://www.digikey.com/catalog/en/partgroup/evq-pa-series/13071)
Should I get the tall ones (http://media.digikey.com/photos/Panasonic%20Photos/EVQ-PAC09K,%20EVQ-PAD09K,%20EVQ-PAE09K,%20EVQ-PAG09K.jpg) or the sort of tall (http://media.digikey.com/photos/Panasonic%20Photos/EVQ-PAA07K,%20EVQ-PAD07K,%20EVQ-PAE07K,%20EVQ-PAG07K.jpg) ones? Edit: These are SPST-No... Is that still SPST? This stuff is confusing haha.
-
as I stated, you can use wrapping wire from radio shack.
the switches are fine. the ones you posted are tact switches (these are most common for modding. get one that is around 7mm in height if you are ordering. but you can get ones that are 9mm from radio shack that work fine.
SPST-NO is all you need.

That's the one I ordered. I also got the wire from there since I'll end up with 100ft for $10 and kynar seems like it's a better choice for no extra cost.
How is the height on that tact switch, though? It just says ACTUATOR 13 and says .24" for height, which is just under 7mm.
Thanks for the help btw guys.
-
yup those are exactly it and the kynar wire is well worth it easy to run your lines with it learned that the hard way
-
7mm is fine
-
Do you guys have any suggestions for sites to learn more about circuitry and electronics in general? I sort of dove in head first here without much previous knowledge... I'd like to learn more as fuel for future projects with controllers, but I know very little about this sort of thing.
-
Now that I've got the new tactile switches/buttons, which side is what...
-
you will want to use these two pins (https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss313%2FSilvaaa_%2Fswitch.png&hash=ce998a2ee515765af59f71f3899badf4fe19d68a)

Oh, so there isn't a particular lead for power/ground...
