Title: It works...can you tell me why?
Post by: ViSioNXx on December 17, 2012, 01:30:57 PM
So I had this old dead controller laying on my desk. I got bored and decided to see if I could find a blown fuse or something of that sort. I ended up using a paper clip to bridge a few connections. The bottom wire in the pic was where I first realized I was not getting power across. Even after bridging it it took a lot of fudging with the xbox button to get it to turn on. It would only turn on about 1/50 times this way. Some how I figured to cross the Top .... I don't know what it is.... While I was pressing the xbox button and it came on every time...

I tested it out for a while and everything sems to work fine so I put a tact switch over the ??  It turns on by holding the xbox button and pressing the tact switch once...

Can anyone explain this? If so is their a better fix? Any comments welcome :)

search the forum thanks to RDC we have board scans which reveal where each trace goes

I think I would need the component list more then a scan. I have looked at several and none have info on what each part is.
For that matter I can not find the diode that is supposedly the most failing part on these  controllers.... Thanks though.

should've mentioned that you were after the component list
ill take a look for you and post what it is
ps should also post what board it is matrix cg cg2 matrix 2 etc
c28(where you have the tact switch hooked up=0.1uF capacitor i believe can anyone confirm

That would explain why the "boost" in power seems to jump start the controller... Any idea if the wire I needed to jump has anything to do with that?

Oh and thanks a ton!

And I think it is a cg board.

put the tact under the X button and play it until it dies.

I take it its a CG controller? or CG2?

From what I can tell its cg. Matt, I think that is what I am going to do. That shell is already trimmed for tact switch. I may figure out some crazy mod for it since its been long dead to me :) After bringing that one back I have 5 or 6 controllers now. :) BTW I got to show you guys my new controller!! Any body here have the raptorfire mod?

Oh and the question is if I replaced the capacitor would it work as normal??

Replace the cap and it should work.  you are bypassing it with the button. the cap holds power needed for startup and should dump it while powering up. apparently the cap has failed.

I ment mount the tact under the x button, like for real, under it, so when you press the xbutton it activates the normal xbuton and the tact at the same time.

But what if I need to use the x button? A second press of the tact turns the c=ontroller off.

lol x button aka guide button... that jumper wire could be doing more harm than good as that pin is meant to have 0 volts when the controller is off, but it will always have voltage from the batterys how you have it now.

Oh sht. Now I feel dumb lol. That makes more sense,  I will try to remove the jumper and see if it still works. Thanks everyone.

Edit: Without the jumper it does not come on..... I think this controller was just meant to be dead lol!!
