Like the title says, i have a fat ps3 with the blinking light red. is that the power supply gone bad. this is my cousin ps3, he brought to me with a drive not working. replaced some parts. the ps3 was working fine before this, so i got everything back in, placed a disc in and the drive tries to read. it spins and stop constantly until it shuts off and gives me the blinking red light.
-
Can you post a video please.
-
Ill post a video later. But i don't really see why though. It beeps 3 times and the led blinks red constantly. Lol clueless as to ps3.
-
Sounds like it could be the power supply. its been a long time since i have messed with a PS3 . you can always check the voltage but you have to be careful when doing it. Has he updated it lately?
-
Firmware 4.01 i think.
-
Dude have tried putting the PS3 into recovery mode? Problem is if dvd drive is not functioning and you try and rebuild it will brick.

Thats why i asked him if he updated it. could be bricked been along time since i have repaired one of these.

The drive was missing tge magnetic disc holder, power cable and a damaged disc sensor. I replaced all 3. Then it started to blink the red led. Before this, it would load up to the xmb fine. I would broswe around the menu and even loaded some movies. After i replaced all the parts, the drive was trying to read the disc. But it couldnt and thats when itstarted with the blinking led. Suspect a bad laser. But would i still be able to get into recovery mode with the blinking led?

double check the cable under the dvd drive maybe its not connected also check all your other connectors , could be just hardware issue not detected. shot in the dark but worth a try , ( i am sure you tried this but always good to double check)

remove the br drive the ps3 will still function without it and theres no way he couldve updated it with a busted drive it will cause a red screen of death or a firmware update loop itll fail at 70 something percent
most common red led blink is due to hardware failure either a bad PS a failed cpu/gpu etc same thing as rrod
but if it was working fine and after the replacement parts maybe you shorted something out
and when working with ps3 phats you cant simply change out the br drive due to the br drive being married to the mobo like a xb 360
you will have to remarry the drive
-
Im already married to my wife, dont want to remarry at all. Lol. Ill try it without the drive

i think the issue was when you went in to repair the br drive if you said it was working fine before you attempted any repair or did i read it wrong
-
It Was Working Fine Yes. But I Wasnt The First To Try A Repair. I Never Had It On Longer Than 15 Minutes.

why i never mess with someone else's work to many unknowns on what they did in many cases you can do more damage then good
i really wouldnt recommend a reflow until its a last resort
as rodent suggested if you can upload a video from start until the ylod would be great
-
Ill Try To Upload A Video Tomorrow. Going To School For A Few HourS. Picking Up My Schedule, Then FIxing somE Xbox.
-
worth a try but when you tried to repair the drive did you by any chance not put the wires in all way i did that once on my first clean up of a ps3.
have you checked that you have not damaged the wires while doing your fixing?
when you said fixed the laser did you get the right replacement by any chance
-
white i never touched the laser. even with the drive not plugged in, it still beeps.
-
Unplug the drive and try to start it . If the ps3 still has the same problem it's not the DVD drive . It try to see if you are shorting something out while you messed with the ps3.
Ps. The sp3 should start up without the DVD drive I just checked mine
