Earlier today, a Microsoft Durango Development Kit popped up on the internet. Included with the leak were 5 images of the "Microsoft Durango XDK Documentation Setup" which shed light on previously unknown parts of the console's hardware and functionality. 
 
What we find to be the most significant aspect of the leaked documentation can be seen in the image below. It says: "Durango consoles will have a Blu-Ray Disc drive. Disc media will be used for distribution, but during gameplay, games will not use content from the optical disc." What do you think of this?

I think, I'll believe it when I see it lol

..for real though, I don't doubt it, blu-rays seem to be a dieing dog in itself with digital downloads and streaming services so sony might as well give up the rights and make a buck while they can. Even if my xbox had bluray, honestly, I still won't spend $30+ on a bluray disk.

yeah this rumor and dev kits being shown it a bit old and microsoft have said the new xbox will have dvd/blu ray drive since the times for full HD is here.

The PS3 had blue ray. The reason for it was simple. Bigger games. You could never have a game like killzone on the xbox. The disc had over 40gb of data on the 3d version. Even some of the non 3d games had huge amounts of data. The capacity of BR discs is just incredible. Allowing for higher resolutions of cut scenes and better video quality. But as any long time PS3 owner will tell you they are doomed to fail. One more thing to break and be hard to replace.
I wish they would do away with discs and go digital download only. Discs drives fail a lot more than HDDs .

No more waiting in lines for game releases. No more scratched discs. Might even cut the cost of production a lil.  The only thing I think would be a problem, would be used game trades etc. There would have to be a way to transfer game licenses.

Not sure, it may be fake. I would not expect Microsoft to make a console where part of their sale profit (if they make any from the console) has to go over to Sony because of the Blu-Ray patent.
