This Is Something I Might Be Interested In For My Class. You Think You Can Whip Up A Board For Soic As Well. My Class Is Learning How To Solder Smd Components.

I got bored so I designed my own  (Keep in mind I only spent like 10 minutes on this, so it aint that great, and something minght not be wrong).  What do yall think?

And 3DO, is this pad necessary?

no its not

happy? and just wondering why you would place the gnd so far apart like that?
ecstatic

But I was making everything really spaced out because I was just doing this to see if I actually remembered how to use diptrace(I had/have no intention of actually getting it printed).  Here's a more compact version I just put together(its .36 square inches).  Tbh it could still be smaller(You could just have 1 ground pad and wire the 4 led ground wires and the controller ground to it; and everything could still be closer together), but, meh, its not really necessary(you'd save like 5 cents printing it)

make it smaller and post the file so I can have them printed. you only need one ground, the led negatives can go directly to any ground on the controller. so the extra pads are not needed. also change the chip type to a soic package.

Now make it smaller and more compact ....  so it will fit behind the Motherboard.

smallest i could get the board which is dam small
removed gnd pads and switched from dip to soic
resistor size is now 0603 not the original 0805
comments
good concept make it so its programmable right on the board . will be easy to change from fader to flasher... lol    awesome work :D

Just A Suggestion, You Can Run A Vias For The Bottom Left Resistor To Its Pad. Rather Than Run A Trace Along The Bottom Of The Board.
Title: Re: topbuzz led flasher
Post by: Modded Matt on April 17, 2013, 08:49:35 AM
that would add a layer adding to the printing cost.

Post by: Gizmo613 on April 17, 2013, 08:53:13 AM
i thought of the same thing matt, but i just check the price at osh park. it cost the same $1.35 per set of 3.
Title: Re: topbuzz led flasher
Post by: 3D0kassiah on April 17, 2013, 08:54:15 AM
dont think oshpark takes single sided boards
i managed to get it single layer but kept rejecting it until i added a via and bottom trace
plus i think there biggest thing is how big the pcb is not much how complex it is

i do have one question though, the diagram from ghost says 150 ohm resistor. but in the topbuzz thread for this code. it says 100 ohms. would either be fine?

rodent we didnt forget about u lol got new stuff coming dont worry
gonna talk to gizmo soon and ima go by whatever his prices are as far as i go im only doing all this for donations so whatever members or whoever wanna donate to me is cool so i can continue to do little projects here and there and the reason im asking for donations personally so i can order pcb's and test test and test im gaining more by learning so in the end its cool
only thing that sucks is i wish i can order in huge amounts so everyone can play with them but due to personal reason i dont have much funds to play around with nowadays....growing up sucks lol
ima let gizmo take it away
