Got a 1708 controller that had started to drift , checked it out in the windows controller properties and both left and right sticks were out (right more so than left) , opened it up and replaced both sticks, hooked it back up the pc and checked again and both sticks are still out by the same amount, is there a way to fix this without just junking the board and replacing ? any passives between the stick and the main chip that could have failed (and are accessible to change) ?
Any suggestions (sensible :P ) welcomed

The only 'easy' thing you can do is desolder the POTs, not the whole stick just the POTs, and kind of turn them in the direction that will eliminate the drift. Depending on how bad they are, you may need to remove the POTs from the stick housing so the little plastic posts of them can be cut off so the POT can then be clipped back on and you'll be able to turn it a bit more.
