Title: 1708 - looks like new, except B button dead
Post by: theADDict on May 22, 2019, 03:10:31 PM
Hey folks, great forum, wish I found it earlier.

Current controller, new problem never encountered before.

1708
mint condition so could of been faulty from new
everything works perfect, except B which is of course on bigger board....dead

swapped out rubber membrane...but looked new, and used one made no difference.

Any ideas how I can test, fix, diagnose how to get B button response ?

not very knowledgable, but have multimeter and soldering iron at the ready.
lots of spares too

many thanks u pros

update, grabbed a split damaged donor board to compare with, spotted something quite quickly.....

R29 looks missing, or off its pads, or totally mangled.

what do you think ? bridge ? can I run a link wire elsewhere ? or try and clean then replace with donor cap from damaged board ??
or.....would that not be B button linked solution I was looking for ?

many thanks

R29 is a 100ohm, 0402 sized, SMT Resistor and is most likely the reason the B buttons is dead as it's in that line. You can jumper it for a test to see if B starts working, but I'd replace the Resistor for a permanent repair if it does work after that.

Thanks for the reply.
Tried to clean the area...but was only one pad. Top one.
Tried to replace cap....not got the correct equipment really...or skills.....but then ran a wire from cap...or solder around cap?!...to TP41, so at least I could test.

result.....perfecto.
see how long she lasts.

thanks again, got another troublesome controller to post queries of when I have time.
