Title: Xbox one controller 1708 Range issue
Post by: gamingbuff1993 on August 28, 2020, 01:39:44 PM
Hello guys, I am hoping if someone can help with my controller.

I have a controller 1708 model

Issue - Works fine wired but the Bluetooth range drastically decreased. The controller only stay connected when it is very close to the console ( say 10cm ), otherwise it will not stay connected, I tried it with 3 different consoles so i know that it is not the wifi pcb that is faulty on the console. I also opened the controller to see if the antena cable was loose or any damage/corrosions, but everything seemed fine. May be I should replace antena cable and see if it works but before I do that, I am curious if someone has had the similar problem and was able to solve it. Any help/guidance will be much appreciated.

Also, I have windows and macbook and it is wierd that it connects normally with those devices without any range issues.

UPDATE: I also updated the controller but still no luck

could be a problem on your wireless board on Xbox, you can see the board just removing the plastic cover of the console

I have the same problem. Does not connect to a wireless adapter on a Windows 10 computer. I.e., there is a connection at 10 cm. more than 10 cm connection is broken. Have you found a solution?

The software update didn't help. I found out that the Board where the MCU is located is faulty. On a good Board, the resistance on the C35, C46 - MOhm, and right capacitors - 3 kOhm. On a faulty Board, the resistance on these capacitors is 400 Ohms. Any ideas?

sorry i dont check capacitors resistnace too often, cuz they are capacitors, not resistors. take them one by one and check if resistance go to higher values.

I have the same problem above 10 cm. The pad loses range from the console

Have you figure out where the problem comes from? What do you mean when you say "smaller pcb"? The one where the MCU is soldered on?

I have this same issue.
I swapped  Z10, Z11, C77, RFF2, Z4, C13, T2, Z2, Z1 from working board and nothing change.
This is strange, because this isn't work only with xbox. When i connect wireless with notebook range is fine.
