Hi.
I have a JDM-040 controller not charging. There is an orange light when connected to the charger, but it is not charging.
When I connect to a PC via USB cable, everything works when I disconnect it, it immediately turns off.
I noticed that one chip is hot after plugging it in.
Anyone have any tips?

Try a different battery if that doesnt work reflowing the chip might work.
Someones likely been charging that controller with a phones fast charger instead of the recommended one. Another thing to try would be to disconnect the touchpad and try charging that way if it was bought as a parts controller the wrong touchpad could be causing issues.
-
You are measuring Resistance across an Inductor there, so the 0.2ohms is normal.
-
Thanks for the tips
No touchpad and it's the same.
The same without the battery.
I did reflow and the same.
Any other tips?

Its going to heat up without a battery no matter what.
try a different known good battery for the same model
-
I checked on the battery from Jdm-055 (100% working)
And it's the same as usb connection.
On the battery, it does not heat up

Is it a capacitor in the first picture?
Is this normal in the second photo?
-
Yes it is a Capacitor.
No is should not measure like that, it should be around a Meg or so.
-
Does anyone know what value this capacitor has?

all red marked pins are shorted together.
This is not normal, is it?
-
It's normal for pins 7, 8, 11 and 12 to all be connected because they are all ground. Pins 1 and 2 are the USB 5v though.
If you suspect that Cap is the issue just remove it and see if the short goes away, it will work without it, if that's the issue. The small 5 lead chip just under that Cap could also be suspect, as well as a few other things that are on the USB 5v rail, like the PMIC.
-
I removed these 2 parts and it's still the same. I don't have an idea anymore. Maybe someone has some suggestions?
-
Just having a quick look, there seems to only be 1 more Cap on that USB 5v rail before it goes to the PMIC, so 50/50 shot it's that Cap. It's on the top side of the board, closest Cap at the top/right corner of the foam piece there in the center of the board where the speaker sits. Might be more on that rail somewhere, just had a quick look, but you've already stated the PMIC gets hot after it's plugged up, so odds are pretty good it's hosed.

I removed this part D92003MW and after connecting to the usb nothing warms up anymore.
I soldered back and it warms up but has already lost communication with the pc.
What is it for ?
Is it power management (power ic)?

are you very sure its 92001 and not 7733ftg ?

Yes, it's like power management, but in my jdm-040 it's a 7736ftg chip - try to replace it with new one. Heating is a sign of short circuit
-
does it ever worked before? cuz 92001 pmic was placed on jdm001-020 boards, but not newer ones.

It's about this

Excuse me. That's how it worked.
It only worked on the usb cable after disconnecting it immediately turned off

yes, he took this comment as :censored:ty as I did. Please remain respectful, I know it can be difficult....

ok, so someone had stolen more expensive pmic for jdm40 and placed 92003 instead.
-
Possible. I bought it at auction as damaged.
