Title: Oil Cooled PC
Post by: MattZani on May 14, 2007, 02:57:42 AM
Found this really cool way to cool a PC, and may actually give it a go with an old PC i have, it seems like a real novel way to keep a PC cool, and it would look so damn cool!

The year: 2000
It's just become the new millenium.
Celeron 366's are still being used to overclock like crazy.
What happens when you Submerge it in Fluorinert and cool it with Liquid Nitrogen?!

Welcome, children to liquid cooling.

I have wanted to try this for a while. Perhaps next fall I'll get around to it.

flourinert?
There is a liquid from 3M that isn't conductive that I have wanted to try this with. Perhaps this fall I'll do it.

its very expensive so unless you are willing to spend an extremely large amount of money (prob 1000 for whole comp) you shouldn't do it.

this is a cool little projecr and would be easy to cool the oil too. Just hav the fish tank pump run the oils trough cooled piping and back into the tank.  nice find.

Yeah I know it's expensive. And from what I hear it evaporates pretty quick too so an air tight case is a must.

If you keep it below room temperature(say with LN2 Cooling like they did on octools) you will not lose any Fluorinert to evaporation.

Then a fish eats half of the GPU.

i just thought i would draw up what my idea was for doing somthing similar to that (until my mum said i couldmt submerge my computer - so i will try to get an old one to try it with)
its a computer case that allows you to submerge you PC in a coolant oil (would baby oil work)

(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg247.imageshack.us%2Fimg247%2F6262%2Ffishtankcasemodvm0.jpg&hash=b5d2fe789f2274fe81e3f9067566ec99a52203b8)

its a very simple 5 minute pic but it gives the jist - i would need to make slots for DVD drive and HDD that were separated from the liquid but thats another time

Thats really awsome but i dont think that i could do that to my computer. The idea of putting my computer anywhere near liquid of any kind makes me feel sick.  :boxed: The computer is really cool but why is the fan there does it circulate water or somthing? The bubbles could help with that.
