Title: I finally have white ds buttons with leds
Post by: rocky on May 20, 2007, 07:14:31 PM: I have finally tested the white ds lites buttons to see if leds will show through them and they do!
All you have to do is drill a little bit down in the bottom till you see a little bit of the darker color grey used for the letters and then put a led behind it, put some hot glue over it and its done. It has a nice soft glow to them.

I just use 0603 smt leds on ebay.

It works very well with black buttons but to a different effect

Instead of giving the buttons a soft glow it gives the letter a soft glow because it's lighter then the button plastic: It looks sweet, ill upload some pics when i finish the buttons tommorow, i only tested it today.

Man those buttons are a :censored: to drill with my :censored:ty hobby tool

i dont wanna drill since you can go thro easily, i have drill bits, can i spin them to dril it and how long do you think it would take. also wat kinda of led did you use, a 5mm or 3mm.

also does the ds require triwing screw driver cuz my wii doesnt need it and not sure if the ds does. thanks

I decided to be a filthy conformest and install them in clear buttons

As for drilling be very carful as it is sooo simnple to drill to the point where you go right through or mutilate the letters. On a white set just go till you can see the grey plastic of the letter NO FURTHER; on black buttons go through the white plastic till you see grey/black NO FURTHER.

On White buttons you will get rockys effect, the buttons glowing softly and the letters nice and visible, on a black button set you get my effect where the letter is the only poart that glows because the letter is made of lighter plastic then the button

Just follow this Tutorial and instead of clear buttons use your Black or White set, you just gotta drill like i said in my previous post

That will work too any color will work because they put the brownish color for the letter.

MAKE THAT DS SHINE

Irritated by Nintendo's blatant negligence in not making the buttons of the ds lite glow in the dark, somebody on acidmods.com forum has come up with a home-made solutoin. He used a drill to thin the plastic on the underside of the buttons, until the grey outline of the lettering could just be seen,then installed four blue LED for maximun brightness.
