Title: led in ps2 memory card
Post by: mick on August 05, 2007, 05:33:09 AM
I was sure that in memory I somewhere could put led and began the efforts in order to him I put. It’s also a good idea to use a resistor. I used a 100 ohm resistor and the led still shines very brightly.(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg185.imageshack.us%2Fimg185%2F4025%2Fzoominmemoryledqm3.jpg&hash=557728a95f46530ec5733a926ea9f7b69fa62295)

if theres no resistor then your led burned out thats why it doesnt work.you need a new led now =p

well wouldnt the led flash first and then die? thats what happened with the one i used without a resistor.are you sure you just didnt have the leads on the wrong pins?

Try soldering where point 4 and 5.

Why did you need a resistor?

does this flash when there is activity? if it does i suppose it could prevent corruption of data.

I tried this too
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi236.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff89%2FRyan14182%2F20-07-07_0202.jpg&hash=1873af0b605ea4fe34b304dd8d683e54a2b012a9)

the green one has a 1k resistor and the red one doesn't have one at all, I noticed that with the red memory card there is a message that pops up once in a while that says " new memory card detected in slot 2 would you like to load"...etc. I'm guessing that the led is pulling a little to much power without a resistor, its a different voltage than the green one though, I think its around 5v..?
So put one on to save the memory card, even if the led doesn't need it :yess:

So the resistor give it extra power?

A resistor stops a certain amount of current from passing through them, think of them like a damn for electricity.

You add them to leds because without them there would be to much current flowing though the led and it would burn out.

u shouldnt put as much solder on the gold pins, what hapens in the excess solder pushes down the pins in the mc slot and then only that mc will work because if u put in a different one the pins don't touch, thats what happened to my m8's ps2 so be careful

So has anyone figured out if you can do this and it still saves data? :dntknw:

If so can I get a link?

No link, but I know it does, I've done this to about 3 memory cards. As long as you do it right, and don't scratch the actual board itself (which I did on one and lost my FF9 and CTR save on ps1) then you're fine. The connection effects the power used with an LED but doesn't mess with your memory. BTW I did it to 2 Ps2 memory cards and 2 Ps1 memory cards of which one of those worked.

Edit- Added me pictures :D, hope I didn't bump this since I know it hasn't been talked about in a while, but someone will see it :P

I added kinda led that lights perfect on 3 volt,
does it needs a resistor to?  :help:

I'm a big noob in modding   :eyebrow:

A resistor stops a certain amount of current from passing through them, think of them like a damn for electricity.

You add them to leds because without them there would be to much current flowing though the led and it would burn out.

the current is always the same in a series circuit. but it does load of some voltage from the led, thus making the resistor share some effect.

i have not read this article, but i guess it should clear up something...  LINK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Series_and_parallel_circuits)
