Need help with GPS and PSP Phone.
« on: January 10, 2008, 12:10:36 AM »
Ok guys this is what I want to do with my PSP.
1.Turn my PSP in to a GPS receiver
2.Use my PSP as a phone to make calls to other PSP users.

The PSP that I have has 3:71 Sony FW.
Please help to make this possible, I don't understand everything but I'm wheeling to learn .
I have a  question for the experts in this field.
1.Can the CFW be use for GPS and Phone?

There is a homebrew program for the gps, unfortunately I can't remember the name of it but it's at psp-hacks as well.

okay, first you need to install custom firmware.. there is a thread at QJ's forum that will help you find a guy that could download your psp for free (just send it to him with money for the return postage). This is hard to do alone because you need to create some files on a psp with custom firmware already installed, but if you have a friend with CFW i bet he can help out. PM me for the link to that thread, i dont know how good the mods like people linking to other forums.

for the psp phone take a look at www.noobz.eu its fanjita's homepage (the creator of the program, and a lot of hacks for the psp)

you need to buy a gps receiver for your psp.. after that, you just plug in the thingy in the box you bough, and put in the umd, start the game, and bam you got a map of where you are and such.. it depends on where you live if they sell this around you. not shure but i think they only sell it it US and japan, soon it will also come to UK and Norway and some other north European countries (dont quote me on the last part)

Use the pandora method if you have a friend already using custum firmware.
If you want to know how to use pandora, i can help.

Both the PSP phone and PSP gps are homebrew apps as far as im aware. For homebrew you NEED CFW.

Hope this helps

here is the bottom line, any PSP on custom firmware (which custom firmware you ask? just use the latest one, why bother with older versions, just get 3.71 m33, and 3.80 m33 when it releases)  is capable of using the GPS, and it is only on sale in japan, but can be imported to the US (from companies like Play-Asia), however the official software is only available in japan right now (EU and US later this year) until then grab a copy of Deniska's MapThis! for your PSP and you can use that GPS in the states to your hearts content... I do recommend at least a 4GB MSPD tho...

They wanted me to build them a bomb, so I took their plutonium and in turn gave them a shoddy bomb casing full of used pinball machine parts!

:dntknw: Maybe U should use mobile antenna istead of the psp one, but this is very hard :sadno:.
With psp antenna first person have to see second person for calling among, because there aren't any transceiver, unlike
cell phone, and secondly U need for voice transmision high-quality connection, which psp antenna can make
only in small range.

Yes MapThis, that was the one I was trying to remember :victory:

I've heard it's good, but you need to setup the maps yourself though to use it.

I guess the Pandora method is the only one for 3.71 sony fw. you need another psp WITH custom firmware to prepare files for the memory stick, and battery.
there are(as i mentioned) free services with loads of helpful people that will do this for free, only shipping cost.

Thier is an okay program for the phone listed before on this post but here are some SIP services.
SIP Provider List

#1 http://voipcheap.com

Pros:

    * Works in USA, Canada, and more.
    * Free calling to regular phones (300 minutes, but after you run out you can make a new account)
    * No activation required
    * You can get a real number for only $2 (or $4?) depending on where you live.
    * Free SMS

Cons:

    * No calls over 1 minute without a real number
    * No where to find out your SIP #?
    * Real numbers available for registration are hard to get, due to limited amount in your area
    * Need to activate your account using your cell phone to get caller ID set on to your number

You can either download the app to your PC to set-up an account or THANKS to .A.J's find you can click the MAC Linux link and register from the website without downloading the app!

Thanks to Dartan for that!

Do not upgrade to 3.72 HX-x upgrade to 3.71 M33-4
you have to upgrade in steps search google for an official downgrader to 1.50 or the simple way is to use pandora.
From 1.50 follow Dark alexs CFW (M33 team)
