Yet Another Guitar Hero Guitar Mod [Brainstorming]
« on: January 04, 2008, 01:41:22 PM »
Basically, I'm gonna mod my guitar, either way its getting done. All I need is help from you guys lol.

I'm gonna try go big on this with the button side anyway. What I was thinking was:

1. Have different settings for what the LEDs do:
1.i. Nothing
1.ii. Light up when button is pushed
1.iii. Random flashes Random
1.iv. Pulse ever second or something Pulse
1.v. EQ style running up and down board EQ
1.vi. Running up and down the 5 buttons Running

2. External button which switches function.

3. Clear moulded buttons.

4. External pedal for activating starpower, wired through a guitar jack to make it look real.

I have no idea how to do the circuit, which is where I need your help. I'd like it to be on one circuit if possible.
I'll make a tut when I finish and I'll also take pictures along the way. Will do it to a wired guitar at first then do it to a wireless if it goes well.

Sounds cool.

# 4 has been done, I seen them on e-bay.

The clear buttons sound nice but who do you know or how can you pull them off?
As far as the LEDs I would either have them flash when the buttons hit or flash when the button needs it.

the easiest way (and possibly the only way) to do #1 would be to use a PIC.
They wanted me to build them a bomb, so I took their plutonium and in turn gave them a shoddy bomb casing full of used pinball machine parts!

just got an idea/suggestion. get a sensor bar that sits underneith the tv screen. it will pick up the colors and send a signal to the leds in the fret buttons symbolising that the button needs pressed.
It's been a long time

Just googled PIC and yeah I would probably need one of them. As long as it can switch through the different settings. Just in case its not clear in the first post, I want all those settings and be able to change them with the touch of a button.

As for the clear buttons, a guy I know at my work is pretty good with resins apparently and I'm gonna ask him to make me some if he can. Either through clear plastic mould and then use a coloured LED or use a coloured resin so I just use a white LED.

Edited the main post with some examples of what the buttons would be doing. Possible to add fade on to some of those as well to make it look smoother or something.

--------------

Edit: Anyone have any ideas on the circuit/circuits I'd need to make this possible?

lol i was just bout to say u can use pic's but then i seen the above posts :D,yup u'll need a pic microcontroller dev board (i recommend samsung boards),then u need some pic microcontrollers to programme, they are fairly simple to programme its just takes some time,i learned off my dad cos he used to work with pLc's (much bigger pIc's,yes i know i typed PLC,they are different),basically plc's deal with much larger voltage than pic's

I'll need hardware to program these PICs then. Hope it doesn't get too expensive.

Half way done moulding the buttons  Took one to work today and used some quick set rubber compound (mixture of white and blue putty) to mould the button. Hopefully gonna try some resin in it tomorrow to see how it comes out.

Yeah I cam do the simple push to activate light, was just hoping to make it a bit better with some complicated electronics. I think I'll do a simple push to activate on my wired controller, and see if I can pull off the PIC stuff with the wireless one lol.

if you use a pic u can programme loads of different flashing combinations, and if you have the time u could even programme the button presses of a song into it lol,pic dev board is about 50 euro in maplins and pic's are usually about 10euro each depending on how much onboard memory and pins you want, they can go up to 20-25 euro

Damn thats not as much as I was expecting!

Also, started my resin moulding today, considering I only have 1 mould, and it takes 12 hours to dry, gonna take me a while.
I'll work on getting the PICs by then maybe  :dribble:

Can't WAIT! :D

Edhel: Please dont use so many smilies, thanks :)

the great thing is though pic's can be used in nearly anything, and once you have the dev board u can use as many times as you wish,so its well worth it in the wrong term

I'm just gonna have to get the money, and I'll get it. Next is learning on how to program them lol.
