Oh no, tightening the faceplate didn't make a difference, what i think the problem may lie is where it makes contact to the joystick signal. (the part that lies right above the mobo)

I've experience the same problem with my own psp. Futhermore, I've concluded on three possible fixes. 1: replace the silicon rubber piece with a new one. This one I have done it and it works great. 2: Hard wire the analog stick to the mobo by soldering four strings of kynar wire (30 gauge) to the four brass color contact points on the mobo. If done right, this one will definetely solve your problem. 3: On the analog sticks four brass color contact points, apply a small amount of plain solder to each of the four contact points. Make sure that each dab of solder being applied have the same thickness to each of the four contact points. This will apply equal amount of pressure to the silicon rubber piece, making full and direct contact. This third choice requires experience soldering skills and if done right, it also solves the problem. I hope this help...

Id solder wires to the mobo or buy a new plastic thing. I think you put plastic thing on wrong side..
having a higher post count doesn't earn respect in the forums, quality posts do.

Like I said, I already fixed it and no I did not put the rubber contact piece in backwards, I left it in the same way as how I bought it.  Never taken it out.
