psp modification
« on: April 22, 2008, 04:13:21 PM »
i am a noob to modding the psp, but i have been using my hacked psp for a while now. Any way, i have been wanting to take out mu umd drive for some time now but i dont want to lose my umd drive capability. So, would it be possible to reassemble the umd drive in an external case that could just be plugged back into the psp for use?

well when taking out the umd drive, if you just unplug a ribbon, then all that your would have to do it extend it. I have no experience, though this is all speculation

i just googles some pictures of the umd drive and saw that it can be taken out as a single whole piece, but couldnt you just make 2 ports on the back of the psp to plug in the ribbons or what ever cables your choose to use?

You would also have to de-solder the UMD drive switch, mount it in your custom exterior case, and run the wires to the correct leads...

thanks, this definitely clears things up for me. I may actually consider taking out the umd drive and put in some internal battery. another thing, if i were to open the psp, is it easy to put back together or is it a pain?

If you have never modded a psp before, i suggest you do a few easier mods and get used to the psp internals first.
