« on: April 18, 2008, 03:00:20 PM »
Title says it all. I'm trying to figure out parts for my desktop I plan on building over the summer, and I want to know which is better.

Oh, and which is better
This Intel Processor
Or this AMD Phantom?

Yea I've decided on Intel, considering a side job I plan on doing requires an Intel processor :P

Haha yea, oh and how do I know how a mobo is set up, Like ATX style or something. The case I want has these specs:

Form Factor:     ATX Mid-Tower
Compatible Motherboards:     ATX
Micro ATX
Bezel Type:     Swing Out
                    LED Illuminated
Side Panel Type:     Clear, Vented, Quick-Release
Power Supply:     Not Included
Material:     Steel
Special Features:     Built-in Fan Controller
External 5.25" Drive Bays:     4
External 3.5" Drive Bays:     2
Internal 3.5" Drive Bays:     5
Expansion Slots:     7
Front USB Ports:     2
Front FireWire Ports:     1
Front Audio Ports:     2
80mm Fan Ports:     4
80mm Fans Included:     2
Depth:     19.25"
Width:     7.75"
Height:     17"

So how do I know whether a motherboard will have that ATX style and fit in there?

EDIT: Nevermind, i just looked through some motherboards and noticed "ATX" in all the names :P

How many SATA hard drives can I fit in here, and it can use DDR2 ram, right? It says DDR3 so I'm guessing it should be compatible with DDR2 also?

Or is this one better?

Or is there a better one? One that can handle up to 5 HDDs too :P

I'm probably gonna max myself at around $2000-2500. Also getting a second laptop harddrive.

Look If you Buy An  ATX MOBO Not Micro look for a Case That says Full ATX/Micro ATX Meaning it can use either one. Like I have a Full Tower its A Beast!!.

Most Mobos Have 4 intenal SATA ports. and maybe 2 maybe on the I/O panel on the back.

Look I never Used ATI so wouldnt Chose it Nvidia has Always Been there and always worked So I would Go With the Nvidia Chipset mobo. Problem is are you getting a QUAD CORE. Cuz The Nvidia Mobo is socket 775 QCs only.

ATi are lacking in driver support atm, making theyre cards perform badly, so nVidia is the best choice.

If by QCs you mean Quad Cores then you are incorrect about it only supporting quad core processors. "Processors Supported:   Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core 2 Quad, Intel Pentium Dual Core "
And pspkicks316, DDR3 and DDR2 sockets are NOT compatible unfortunately. Unless you have loads of cash, just stick to DDR2.

My mobo has 6 Ram sockets. 2 for DDR3 and 4 for DDR2.
Model : Asus P5KC
It's a good mobo for the money I've spent for it.150euro or a bit less, can't remember.
