PSP USB port broken
« on: August 30, 2008, 02:43:40 PM »
Hi guys,

I accidently broke the USB port of my PSP trying to yank a stuck USB cable, the port itself is in pieces and I managed to aquire a dead PSP motherboard with a USB port on it, is there anyway to take off the USB port from the dead motherboard and to soldier it on PSP.

Any help is appreciated.

Yes I have changed them before.

But I use a surface mount hot air gun for repairing them.

I do not know if you can do it without this type of equipment and I don't think you want
to go out and pay $350 to $400 for a surface mount soldering station

you could use a mini butane blowtorch (one with a tiny tip) to do it,i did it before once with one just went back and forth over the connector really quickly with the torch while applying gentle outward pressure on the usb port (while wearing welding gloves so as not to destroy my hands) and the thing came off easily and in perfect condition, whats more is they're only 20$
Derp.

you can fix it if you have a fine tipped iron and something to slide under the pins to lift them up while you desolder them. you dont need to spend a lot of money on unessecary stuff. dont lift the pins up that high. if you move them around too much you could break them.
