lol i have a situation at the moment

i like my friend's girlfriend, have done since before they were going out, but i didn't know he liked her until he asked her out.

he asked her out 1 week after he dumped someone else, i call that unfair on his ex.

i dunno what to do, timing isn't my forte

@ Luke

I'd be flat out and explain your feelings to her. If she understands you have to respect her decision regardless of what it is. Its better to explain yourself than keep those feelings bottled up and then the chance goes away.

@ ProperBritish

I highly doubt your friend really likes this girl as much as you do. Rebound etc. relationships usually don't last long or work for that fact. If the girl you like is in fact decent then she will probably notice this. I'd say waiting it out would be a good choice because your friend is involved. If it gets to a point where they neither obviously like each other that's when you can intervene.

Bros before hoes man,  any girl your friend dumps is ok, but if they mutually break up/she breaks it off... untouchable for AT LEAST a few months

to luke:
When she says she wants to have a boyfriend like you,if you say "why not?" it comes across as creepy, females are indecisive (no offence any females reading this, which is very unlikely).Take her out on a date something like a movie which doesn't cost much (I've made mistakes like bringing them to a club, buying them drinks etc. only for them to tell me they wanna be friends). On the date hold out your arm/elbow inviting her to put her arm in yours so they feel comfortable in close contact with you,and remember to do it confidently. If all goes well ask her out, whatever you do ask her out BEFORE you make out with her,if you do it after it'll be very very awkward.Be a charmer, make subtle compliments
me:"wow you look gorgeous tonight"
subject"omg no I don't"
me"had me fooled XD"
If she says yes, you've done it!If she says no then she probably wasn't right for you anyways.
This has worked for me on many occasions/girlfriends,if done right it'll be impossible for them to say no XD

Baaaaaaad baaaaaad territory,if you like her you should have asked her out when you realised that you liked her,it's only now that she's taken that you want her more.

You're joking right?
Seriously?
If you ask her out over a messenger like that I'll come to your house an punch you in the face bud.

-_-*

Do it in person.

2 reasons not to do it on msn.

1. MSN isn't the place to do it

2. Asking in person shows more confidence

Trust me, although these were normal childhood relationships, I can tell you when asked in person it makes the relationship last a lot longer.

I agree never do anything like asking out or breaking up on the internets.

And back to the original post about she said she wishes she could date someone like you.  It pretty much means that she wants someone like you, just not you for whatever reason.  Trust me I have been there.  However it isn't all bad tho, you are almost in, you just need to put more work into it.

I suggest doing some activities as friends and build a stronger relationship.  Don't worry about dating and whos boyfriend and girlfriend, it all about the relationship, not what you call it.  But make it clear that you are interested and when you do hang out act how a boyfriend would and not like just a friend.  Be polite, open doors, buy little treats, pay for dinner ect. ect.  And most of all be cool and don't get all wrapped up with titles and stuff. Get wraped up with a relationship instead.

Doesn't make me laugh, He's just asking a community that I assume he's been on for a long time.

Yeah... When you're on a forum for long enough, the community becomes your friend. A place to talk to people. That's like saying "lololololol you asked your friends about a relationship problem!"

If you don't like it, gtfo.

recarnis is right, luke is asking this place because he trusts us, and he has been here a while. The people on this site are real, and have real lives.

The one thing I don't get is how Luke's asking about a girl in real life and he's saying get a life.

Lol good point. The only reason you would have to say "get a life" would be if he was asking for a girlfriend over the internet, which isn't the case here.
