Resistors won't cause things not to short. Are all connections and exposed wire covered with electrical tape?

Um
1. You shouldn't mod while there are batteries in and it's on
2. Take out batteries, turn it off, then try applying tape, then test again.

What, the GBA? You're definitely shorting something out, or you're soldering to the wrong thing. Check your soldering connections again.

You have to solder it really...

You cant just touch the wire then say its shorting, Its not getting a good connection id believe.
