turns on, show time etc, but wont play games??

the Console turns on & shows you the time & all the rest of it....but it wont play the games for some reason.......the unit is pretty good with hardly a scratch on it & in good nic.....just wont play the games
anyone have any idea what could be up with it? it's not mine, so I dont know how this occured...
