psp freezes
« on: December 18, 2008, 05:06:30 PM »
Well I`m gonna pull my hair out from this one.

I've recently finished modding a psp, all works in terms of hard mods.

However, I can't play games with it. I've recently installed 4.01 m33 on it, but when I boot and navigate to a game, it plays the gameboot, than hangs. The same thing happens when trying to launch a recovery program from the recovery menu, try to format flash1, or even exit.

It's not like it freezes and than shuts down, it hangs.

Ive tried reinstalling 4.01m33, 3.90m33, 3.80m33, launching Hellcats recovery flasher using the [Pandora ELF and PBP menu (I get an odd error: 0x0BADC0DE)] and [Recovery menu option (freezes)], dumping and restoring the nand, and rewriting the IDStorage keys using the option in DC7.

I have a feeling it's the IDStorage, but I can't run games, so can't use KeyCleaner by ChillyWilly.

Got a TA 088-v1 mobo, no umd drive in. Has anyone come up with this issue and found a fix??

Hmm have you tried playing a game/homebrew like 30 times? Because I had a similar problem, where it would boot up once every like 20 tries. Also, does it hang when you do a coldboot? If you have the same problem as me, then your flash2/flash3 are physically dead.... Or something like that. Perhaps Electro would have a better explanation, as he's the one who explained to me what's wrong, and it sounds like we have a similar problem. If you do in fact have the same problem as me, then your only bet is to run timemachine. However, that'll remove your ability to play isos/umds. Homebrews and everything else should still work though.

Nope. Coldboot is fine everytime.

I'll try the same game and let you know. But man thats :censored:TY!!!

Could you contact him or find his post so I can understand?

That pisses me off alot.. I already fried a mobo, and this was my fall back one.

Is there any way to find out if the flashes are dead??

Here's the thread:

I'm not sure if there's a good way to find out if flashes are dead, but I remember that while I was trying to flash custom firmware, it'd always say "error while formatting flash2" or something like that, so perhaps if you try flashing a new firmware and it gives you an error, it might be a good indicator that your flash is dead. Honestly, I'm only so-and-so when it comes to this stuff, but there are plenty other softmodders here that are more experiened and might be able to give better explanations. Some examples are Kenshinffx and Electro, so you might want to try pming them. They are very friendly people and will definitely help.

Well I'm relatively sure that it isn't the flashes. I copied a file to my flash 2 and 3, reboot, tried to start a game, still no luck
however it was really odd. One of my plugins decided to work. HUD. so I left it at the gameboot screen, and wouldn't you know:

the damn thing didn't freeze. HUD ticks away merrily while the screen shows the gameboot screen tauntingly.

But I go back into recovery, and BAM

files still there

I got no issue when I tried to reflash it, so I'm sure theres no issue with the flashes.

Well, I think I've gotten rid of one possible cause.

thanks.

Glad an issue was resolved. Does it seem to work consistently now?

It could be part of your MOBO I rember reading where someone droped their psp and it started acting like this.

Also my gf had a ta-088 i hacked it with cfw she only wanted psptube i gave it to her and she droped it started getting a red screen when trying to play a umd, she did the old switcheroo with a psp from walmart.
Next day after she got the new 1 her lil bro had it and someone stole it from him so now she only has 4 ps3, 7 360 and about 9 wiis and about 6-7 of every other console.

DUDE WTF

IT WORKS NOW!!!!

So I told my friend about how my psp wouldn't play games, and he said to "twist it", because his previous one had issues, and thats what he did to get it to work.

Like, sorta bend the psp.

And it works!!

Thanks for the input however.

But that is so freakin odd..

I think it may be a mobo issue.

Perhaps it's because connections were becoming lose, and with a little pressure applied to the mobo, the connections were fixed. This solution seemed to work, but if you drop it, you'll probaby start experiencing problems again.
