3.6 volt constant Phat power source...
« on: March 17, 2009, 09:48:10 PM »
Ok, I am almost done with my internal cooling mod, and now want to know the easiest traces or contact to use as a power source.  The contacts have to have power avaliable even if the unit is off (although battery must still be in, NOT wall charger), so they must be battery-only power source, as this mod will be run from the battery)  Once I have that down, I can put this thing together completely and probably make a video tonight.

Well you could solder it directly to the - and + of the battery on the mobo I think. It would then opperate with both the battery and the wall charger. This will also never turn off where the other 3.6 or 5 volt sources will turn off when the psp goes off.

thats true, but seeing as just below the inside part of the mobo where the pins are, is too close to a ribbon cable, and the other side is right next to the R trigger, I dont know where I would fit both a solder joint, and the wires, without getting in the way of either of those two things.  (Everything must function as if the mod was stock on the unit).  Is there a place further down on the board that comes off of those two outside pins for the battery?

you can use any +3.6v sorce, Powerboard, Motherboard but just use the power led ground so is switched by the psp. If you use the ground plane its going to be on whenever a battery is inserted.

Thats fine.   I have a switch that will be flush-mounted into the UMD door, so any grounding point would be ok.  I wont want a lot of wire length, so where would be the closest (and of course, most open) place to tap into?

Well there is one other point that dosent turn off but it's 5 volts. Somewhere up near the battery but further down theboard. I can't remember exactly where it is but someone posted a pic of it in an earlier post. I'll see if I can find it.

Ok.  I just finished my project, and used the ground and +5V contacts just below the right speaker plug on the mobo.  That turns off when the unit either enters sleep mode, or powers off.  Works pretty well.  But I still want to know where the other spot you were talking about is.  I might need a different behaving power source for future mods.
