HELP with ultimate FPS controller
« on: March 25, 2009, 09:57:32 AM »
I was fascinated by SYSTEM's ultimate FPS controller so i decided to try it myself. My main questions are, how can i move the a,b,x,y and the d-pad to the back of the controller. I have seen the xbox 360 arcade stick and how they wired 2 wires to each button on the board and connected them to sanwa arcade buttons. I was thinking you could do this same thing but instead of wiring them to the arcade buttons just wire them to a tackle switch then mount it on the back (like a rapid fire button). Next i was wonder how to move the left anolog stick to where the dpad is located. Im guessing you have to remove the L trigger button and desolder the anolog stick and then rewire it to where the dpad is. I hope this made sense and if anyone could help me with this it will be greatly appreciated!

this is what i was talking about above. would this be the correct way to connect the a,b,x,y and dpad to tackle switchs on the back of the controller?

havent done the mod, but it looks like you are moving in the right direction. thats about how I would go about it, but the wire at the d-pad may be too thick, the new stick will nee to sit on top of it. but it may be ok.

as for the stick, yea, you must remove the trigger, then on the stick, there are two pots (3 solder points each) 4 solder points for the click (tact switch) and then 4 larger posts that are part of the housing that holds it in place.

get a bulb solder sucker, I started with the bule vacume click thing and it was a pain, it allways left a small bit of solder at the pin, and if you force it you will tear the trace.

good luck, keep us updated on your progress. plz

I know this may seem as a noob question but how do i solder the wire to the buttons on the board if they not even metal(there are no metal pins/solder points or anything). It almost looks like its a plastic type material. The picture above is not my picture its just an example i found on google. I am tring to do that exact same thing tho but am not fully understanding how to. Any ideas???

remember most of the board is coated in a green insulation paint, in order to make contact this needs to be scraped off down to the copper.

yup, scraping the "soldermask" can very difficult.  It is easily one of the biggest killers in the modding scene as it is fairly easy to damage traces.  Also when you scrape down to the copper, make sure it is shiny copper and not dull, as it wont take solder unless it is shiny.

There is a tool for it, called an abrasive fiberglass Pencil, it is strong enough to flake the solder mask off but not strong enough to damage the copper.  Gameroms was the one who showed me them.

(too lazy to find a U.S. source for them, but that link will get you the info you need to find em)
