Modding injuries?
« on: August 11, 2009, 05:10:25 AM »
What ones have you had, if any?

I was just having a look at my xbox, I ran it out of the case (stupid idea I know) and nothing was happening. So as I checked to see if the cable wasd in I ended with 240V running through me.

My arms and hands are covered in scars because of modding, my most recent is a patch of light skin (scar) on my finger because i burnt it with a butane torch

I reached for my dremel once, and ended up grabbing the tip of my soldering iron :D . Probably one of the most painful happenings in my life.

One of the worst is i grabbed the wrong end of my soldering iron... Good thing i only grab it with 2 fingers. 850*f isn't very comfortable and its so hot you dont react quick enough o just drop it you yell then drop it lol.

but a couple months ago when i was modding daily i would burn myself every other hour because i am tinning things while holding it. Its REALLY not that bad.

I almost cut my finger in half with a table saw. I was ripping a piece of ply wood and my mom was screaming at me to get inside and i turned around and my finger rubbed the side of the blade. 2 mm over and my hand was F'ed. Most of my injuries are from working construction. I dropped a 700 LB slab of concrete on my foot once too i had a swollen foot and couldnt walk for a a week.

I accidentally dremeled a hole in my fingernail once :( ... I've also gotten stabbed by my screwdriver, cut by a box cutter, and dropped a little bit of of molten solder on my thigh...

wasnt modding but I was assembling circuit boards one time with very fine tweezers, and I dropped them.  As usual when you drop something in your lap, I quickly closed my legs to catch em and ended up stabbing the tweezers into my leg about 3/4" deep.  ouch, puncture wounds dont hurt right off, but they ache for days after.

I burn my finger on a 750F iron at least once a week, and cant make a full day in the machine shop without some sort of cut on my hands :dntknw:

when I get ready to assemble a chip for a controller I basically know how long the wires will need to be so before I start, I precut the size and color wires I need, so I acn just assemble the socket, mount and conect the precut wires. part of my prep process is to tin all of my wires. well I line them up in me helping hands vice and apply an nice amount of solder to the tip of the iron and just rub the iron accross the wire, I was moving kinda fast and I kinda flicked one of the wires with the iron and took a small bit of melted solder to the eyeball. it hurt for a week. you can still see where it hit the eye.

I burn my self 50% of the time I use my iron, mainly because I never really use my stand lol.

I don't know if it was caused by what happened earlier, but at about 7:00 PM I was having extremely bad stomach pains. So bad i was  down on all fours trying to stop the pain. About 5 minutes later my parents see and give me ibuprofen. I went into the living room and I vomited mostly water then fell asleep. I just woke up lol.

Well were should i start i cut my several times with a xato knife, burned my self with the soldering iron, dropped hot solder on my pants and went through my pants on my leg that really sucked cuz i had a hard time getting them off.... ummm cut my self with the dremel bleed quite a bit from that, hit in the eye by a spring, and i think thats all i remember.

Solder drops on the legs really sucks, because they dont come off until they cool.

I have fried all my finger tips off and cant really feel anything with them anymore.

I have in haled more kinds of fumes than i can count

The dremel hates me.

Dont even get me started on my letter opener.

Well when you put a bunch of teenagers with things like rotary tools, xacto knives, hot irons, solder, solder fumes, etc... you're gonna end up with a lot of accidents XD

Be careful kids. Modding is a serious business.
