?'s on Solar Panels in regards to charging Batt.s
« on: October 20, 2009, 11:17:10 PM »
so i'm looking into Putting a Solar Panel into my iPhone, but have never really worked with them before
I had a couple of ?'s for anyone who has
1.) What is up with the Amps, if a solar panel outputs say 100 mA, is  that per hour, per minute, per what? If I'm planing on charging a 1150mA battery with a solar panel how much current from the panel do I need for a noticeable difference, if say I wanted to increase my overall run time by 20-30% what would it take
2)Without any kind of componites beyond the diode do i have to worry about over charging?
3) from my understnding to charge a 3.7V batt i would need a min of 4.4V, is that correct and and what point do i need to worry about excess voltage

any insight would be greatly apreciated, thanks in advance

I built someting like this long time ago and the panels i have were like 2"X2".
But I believe it depends on the panel size and how long the sun beats on it but it if its cloudy the mA wont be the same all the time.

I was just reDing that new iPhones need a speicial chip or something for accessorys like chargers etc to verify that they are official.

yeah, that is correct.

for example, the car charger for my old ipod nano 2g wouldnt charge my friends iphone. but almost all newer chargers have that "chip"

i wasn't going to make a charger, i was going to hard wire a panel inside my phone directly to the battery, thus bypassing and hardware or programing that would prevent the batt from charging

what i really want to know is how many mA output from a panel would i need before i notice a differance
example:  if i used a panel rated at 30 mA in full sun, and assuming the panel was in full sun, over say a time span of a hour how many mA have made it to my batt. is it 30, 100, 300, 1000, ext., ext., ext.

in other words, if it is rated at 30mA, is that 30mA per sec., per minute, per hour, ext., ext., ext.
