Check and make sure all of the pins of the ports are connected properly. Even 1 messed up pin can break video I think.

my first xbox hand this on and off for a while.
i would always get sound and could hear the xbox working correctly and load up games but wouldnt always av video.

i fixed it for like a week with x-clamp replacement but then it got E74
and is now a expensive paper weight.

however i did find a use for the disc drive and heat sinks in my newest box i got from a friend for £20 as it had a lazer fault at teh time but now works like a dream...

Sigs made by Ken and blazin from the AM Art team cheers guys.....

I sometimes have a similar problem. My 360 elite is completely stock. I have it hooked up to a SOYO brand plasma tv with an HDMI cable. However; sometimes during use, the sound will just cut out. I have to unplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in for sound to come back on. I have tried numerous different cables, but none seem to work. Also, it's rare that it happens, it doesn't happen everyday, maybe once or twice a month.

You can try all of that but more than likely it's GPU related and replacing the X clamps will get you running on first attempt. If you do it right the first time it'll last. Doesn't hurt to do the 12v mod either. I don't know why everyone doesn't like E74. I love getting those errors because they're the easiest to get rid of by re flowing.   Try replacing the x clamps and I can guarantee you that your friend will be ecstatic.

You probably could have just went to system settings and lowered the resolution.
