JP's cr-3100 internal mod.

Here is my Modded slim star wars edition psp and cr-3100 connected . This is my first mod on a psp. and it went fairly well so I decided to share some pics and info and lessons learned.

Here is the completed cr-3100 internal mod install.I have one single 16 gb SDHC class 6 in slot 1 for now. I have an 8 gb laying around but its a class 2 and way to slow. so I left it out.

Here is the cleared UMD drive area.

Here is my mock up for the cr-3100. I set it on the metal so when i opened the UMD door it would lift the 3100 up for access.

Here is the slot I cut for the adapter to slide through. The psp is broken down at this point. Make sure to cut your slot for the adapter not the ribbon cable as you need to slide the adapter through the hole and feed the cable through.

Now here comes the hardest part about this build. You need to assemble the motherboard and card slot and then put the adapter in all the way.
Then reassemble.
I cut off the tab on the cover for a tight fit, and i widened the slot above the card slot. so the cable didn't get crushed. Sorry no pics of that.

Then I got to work on the cr3100's mounting.
I put some heavy Hockey stick tape on the bottom of the cr-3100 to hold it down and hinge. I assembled the door and rested the 3100 on the metal brace. Now when I open my UMD door the cr-3100 pops up for access.

UPDATE: If you do this mod, w the metal door thing as a lift.Make sure you support the ribbon connection to the cr-3100.The solder joint is a week spot. I snapped my ribbon cable off at the cr-3100. My reconnect failed so I put another ribbon cable on the end of the old one. It made the ribbon cable longer ,so i can take the adapter out of the MSPD card slot and still use a regular MSPD card if i want. Also this might work as a solution to installing this on a fat boy. Making the cable longer allows you to flip the cable so it's oriented the right way. Since I have two fat boys, and one the UMD drive is shot. I'm gonna order another cr-3100 and see if the old cr-3100 will work in the fat boy, and put the new one in the slim.

If you want to use the CR-3100 on a Fat psp, you can unsolder the cable from the adapter, flip it over and resolder it to a set od solder points below the original solder points. Looks like the CR-3100 was designed to work with a Psp 1000 but they never got around to making that version. I've done this with my psp fat and it works just as well as before.

Thats what i figured. I was wondering if you could use that solder point your referencing to daisy chain cr-3100's? Just a thought.

UPDATE!!!! My girl smashed my psp and the screen broke. So I did some more mods during replacement. Here is some pics.
