Starting guitar...again
« on: February 12, 2010, 05:54:49 PM »
Hey guys,
So today I decided I would pick up guitar again. A few years ago I bought a guitar and decided to learn how to play it, I wasn't very good and just stopped playing. Then recently, I had been thinking of picking up bass or guitar, and I decided guitar.
Now, the reason for this post. I was wondering if anybody out there could point me in the right direction to start? I already know some of the basics, you know...how to hold pick, string names fret numbers etc... so stuff besides that. I've only been playing tabs.

find simple songs you're interested in and go to ultimate-guitar.com for the tabs.

that's an okay place to start if you're teaching yourself.

learn a few songs you like, and go from there.

an of course you should know, practice lots :D

try the sone "i can't cry hard enough" its a pretty easy song if you know some chords but i thinks the easiest is "time of you life" by green day wich just takes on 4 very easy chords

Acoustic or electric guitar?

If it's electric, you can try "Heavy Metal Lead Guitar" vol 1 and 2 by troy stetina, that give you the basics.

You may also want to download the guitar pro software and your favourite tabs, so you can play with the backing track.

Green Day / Blink 182 are a good start, but download your favourite songs and look a bit at the tabs.

ive been playing for 5 years, what i started out with  is reading tabs. In my case I play Cello as well and I would get my  Bass  cleff and my Treble cleff, mixex up. I would say that you should buy some books to play. Also playing in  a band or with ur friends is one of the best ways to learn and it is very rewarding.

I'll have to disagree with his first line. There is no "right" way to learn guitar, however going about it in the manner he said in the rest of his post can lead better in the long run should you intend on doing stuff with it.

It can also get relatively boring in certain times too, but it's your choice.
