Microfibre cloths
« on: April 16, 2010, 01:04:11 PM »
Hey does anybody happen to know if I'll have any problems with static electricity or something if I lay a microfibre cloth under my PSP or whatever I'm modding to prevent it from getting scratched by my wooden table?

Sig by Kenshinffx - Thanks!

I personally would not use a microfiber cloth, because they cause ALOT of static.  I would just use a regular hand towel.

I would use an anti-static desk mat and earthed wrist band.

I don't see a problem with using a MF cloth. Never had any issues with static build-up related to MF cloths.

(Microfiber cloths are often used to clean LCD and glass monitor screens, I often use one to clean PSP and NDS Lite... really don't think you're using a MF cloth if you're experiencing static buildup)

see teh wrist and mat are a good idea. but u can just as easy solve teh static prob by taking off ur socks, by not being on carpet, and u can touch the back of ur power supply on ur pc with ur screwdriver, or touch a window frame. i would tell u to touch the back of ur psu with ur screwdriver to ground u. not the micro fiber cloth for ur psp shell to lat on to keep it from scratch while ur taking crap out of it. thats ok. but when it comes to the mobo or powerboard u can just put that on teh table.

Ya, i use microfiber cloths for almost everything.  It always seems with me that they cause alot of static.  But as others say, just take your socks off and stay off carpet and youll be fine.  Microfiber is an awesome material.  I always use an anti static bracelet no matter what, because i fried a $300 mobo last year :cry2: You can get one from the "shack"' for around $10 maybe less, its really good insurance.

Alright thanks guys. So basically as long as I keep myself grounded, and keep the more sensitive parts off the cloth (like my mobo), I should be good?

Or stainless

my modding table is a stainless steel 1/2" thick slab bolted to an old black steel pier mount, which is sitting on tiles.
