Quality warnings of 3DTV
« on: June 30, 2010, 07:36:16 AM »
New movies, such as Avatar and Toy Story 3 have been released in 3d in recent months, and people are willing to pay a much higher price for this luxury.

As most of you know, 3DTV is due to burst into the scene within the next year.. With the football world cup and various sporting events on ESPN being broadcasted in full 3D.

However, these 3DTV sets experienced poor first month sale figures, of only 25,000 3DTV sets sold across Europe.

The average TV show, does not have the time, nor the money to spend on filming in 3D. There is, of course an alternative. The traditional 2D film can be converted to 3D after filming. This can be done in numerous ways, ranging from the ‘money-no-object’ to the poor quality conversion.

This is where the 3DTV comes in.

Samsung has announced that their 3DTV’s will include automatic conversion software, enabling ordinary, 2D TV to be converted at the push of a button. This however has alarmed the film industry, who argue that the quality will be far inferior to film recorded from specialist 3D cameras. Director James Cameron warned that cheap conversion could cause ‘ eye strain and headaches ‘.

the 2d to 3d conversion that the samsung tv's do is actually pretty good - i only watched it for about 5 mins but it didnt cause me any issues - but the proper 3d was much better that the 2d conversion
