Pirate Bay Hacked
« on: March 22, 2011, 04:43:28 PM »

Infamous bit torrent tracker Pirate Bay has been hacked, the database information has been harvested and used to send spam emails about how users can make money from using the site.

Far from being the first time the site has been hacked last summer a group of Argentinian hackers gained access to the Pirate Bay's admin panel trough a security breach, that hackers of this attack said they had no malicious intent, just wanted to show that they could do it and that the system was vulnerable.

With a user base of 5 Million members Pirate bay is a obvious target.

Torrentfreak also received reports of another attack in mid February.

If you so wish you can put on your tin hat and say t was the copy-write company's that supported this attack

lol dame spams nothing to what the downloaders are going to get there still going ahead on taking the downloaders to court so spam would be a better thing than being taken to court
come to the rite place if you kiss admins as they promote you to admin.

Get p00ped on.

They should have defaced the site and used it to collect IP addresses and turn it into the FBI to get cash now because its their money is so they use it when they need it.

No one uses Torrents anymore, its too slow, and getting caught is 100% happening, but direct download the future of piracy, is hard to get caught with unless the isp illegaly monitors you.

5 million users is allot of people, and they are just the registered ones, so people still use it, and if you have a demonoid account you can download a text file, so unless your ISP look hard it's difficult to catch

Yes, people do still use torrents, and far more still use them than do use DD for piracy and the ISP isn't the one catching you, it's 3rd party companies hired by the copyright holder, and they don't watch the .torrent file you download, they download the .torrent file and then download and/or seed the torrent and actually watch your IP's activity while the P2P sharing is happening and log your IP and how much you have downloaded and at what times...

again the ISP has nothing to do with it except to send you the DMCA notice. the copyright holder hires a third party to watch and find the people who download, then the third party sends a list of IPs they recorded downloading the material to the copyright holder, then the copyright holder sends those IPs to the ISP and the ISP sends you a notice saying that you were found to be downloading copyrighted material... that's the only part the ISP plays in this...

Here is a sample of the notice they send:

right, your ISP wont "catch" you doing this, but as JR has displaied they have a responcability to enforce the law if someone else catches you doing so and reports your ip to your isp. as ultimatly only your ISP can stop phyisically stop you.

Cant wait to see the future of piracy, when everyone is sailing across the internet, stealing and distributing stolen goods, and having pirate battles sending Trojans in keygens, lol.
Anyone wanna join my pirate crew?  :psp:

If pirate bay got hacked, that shows that other sites are hackable to, but wont that mean, they have the hack the host to retrieve the files?

hey techninja.... the FBI's DMCA division just contacted me requesting that I give them your IP address due to the blatant admission of piracy from you posts here on acidmods.  I told em no way, but they have a pretty good case against you and threatened to name AM as a co-conspirator if we do not comply...
is what i am going to have to tell you if you dont smarten up.  you are amongst very few of our members who actively hints about pirating.  Believe it or not you are not part of a majority here so quit acting like this is a piracy website and everyones ok with illegally downloading software because we are not
once i got hit with a DMCA notice for downloading a ubuntu distro though torrent (the best and fastest way for a iso). I was picking up to much traffic for sharing some of my gcode code that i made and my ISP though it was malicious so they ordered me to stop. until i showed them my internet traffic report they send me back a letter of apology. so yes ISP do have the ability to shut you down if they feel like you are not lawfull.

i guess it took long enough for companies to crack that website ! xD

that was one of the worst website for media companies and in glad they got hacked.

the torrent technology was such a great innovation, but unfortunately it was used in the  wrong way.

And now, there is a newer innovation were the .torrent doesn't need trackers :/ therefore all content can not be traceable. this sux for companies.

lol and dat was funny :)

I really hate when people talk bad about other people.

TPB got hacked and objectively it only shows one thing - they have security flaws that need remedied, and I'm sure that the very best in network security contractors (ie: HACKERS) putting in bids to rework things.

It's not cool when anyone gets hacked, I'm sure every single person who reads this has some dirty laundry they wouldn't like aired. TPB is living in a glass house - I'm sure if you did you wouldn't want people throwing stones at you.

This is bad. Very bad. Pirate Bay is one of the biggest information centres ofthe Internet. Were lucky they only used spam. It could have been a modified stuxnet. That would bring down a lot of people.

There is more to this story. I believe a third party is deliberately seeding a virus in some of the game downloads. A warning to others. "I know a guy" who was downloading a ps3 game from a torrent , the site listed here ,  and upon opening the rar file he infected his terrabite hard drive with a virus. A beast of a virus. the terrabite was almost full. And now its unreadable. I have a suspicion that the virus was put in the down load to stop would be pirates.

That's just your common-or-garden worm. Replicates itself until things get seriously messed up. Tbh if he didn't use a good virus program (free, like avg, malware bytes, and other such) then it's really his fault for not checking. But yeah, I can see your reasoning.

The worst thing, like I said, would be something like the stuxnet worm. Sits in your PC, waits until the time is right, then does something crazy. Saying that, I reckon anyone running any machine connected to the Internet is being watched.

Theres a common misconception between Linux and viruses. I bet you some distros of linux have viruses/rats embedded in the operating system itself and you would never even know.

But seriously i agree that TPB is an onformation center of the internet including Google and 4chan

Theres a common misconception between Linux and viruses.

Oh you mean like the same misconception about Macs and viruses? something about they don't exist or don't get infected, or nobody bothers to make viruses that affect them... or that linux permissions won't allow viruses...

I get Google and TPB, but 4Chan? Seriously?

sadly yes, where do you think the majority of memes start snowballing?
