realistic gun controller for 360.
« on: March 23, 2011, 11:35:31 AM »
I want to make a gun similar to the one I am making for the ps3 move. A realistic ergonomic gun controller for FPS's. I dont know that much about xbox peripherals tho. For the ps3 I am modding a sharpshooter to a new case/shell. I want the same control type on the 360.  Any thoughts , please post. I am thinking about something maybe involving kinnect.

only way I recon this would work if you took the insides out of a standard 360 controller and fit them into the gun.......and kinect Im sure only work by the camera tracking movement of the body so I reckon that mite not work

I was looking for something that would control head movement in fps's like the move does. Maybe the kinnect can track an ir led in the tip of the gun some how.

you could use something like the talismoon tilt board or the xcm tilt, hook it up to the right thumbstick, so when you move the gun up, right thumbstick goes up etc.

Color tracking.

Use 4 LEDS for Vert and Horiz and one different colored LED for center on a circle the size of a CD. Have it recognize the difference in distance between the center LED and the 4 surrounding it to input a directional command. Get creative and use 8 LEDs surrounding it.

That's all I can think of, just gotta find someone who can program and you'd have a nice prototype on your hands.

That is exactly what I was thinking about. There was someone in here working on kinnect stuff. Thanks.  BY the way this one is for AM. I have no interest in xbox stuff. I only started this thread because of my work on the ps3 move. This site is filled with xbox modders, I wanted to come up with something for them. I dont even have a working box to try and test this project. So I would love to see one of you xbox guys pic this project up. If some one can get a proof of concept working I would gladly build them a gun to prototype.  No offense phantomz , but that would not be accurate enough. "Silence is golden but ducttape is silver"

when you get deep into software, with things like kinect and Led tracking, things get too complex and projects never go anywhere...

However, this is a fantastic idea, and 100% feasible...

you could use something like the talismoon tilt board or the xcm tilt, hook it up to the right thumbstick, so when you move the gun up, right thumbstick goes up etc.

See the point is that I want my cursor to be where I am aiming on the gun like the move does. not just control head movement.
Side note, I knew when I started this the xbox version would get more attention, which is funny seeing that the move is the best way to accomplish this modd. Everything for it for the ps3 is already done by sony. The xbox though has nothing already premade to modify to my wants.
