Help: Lighting up the disc drive
« on: April 23, 2011, 12:03:39 PM »
hey, so i was wondering if anyone has a nice diagram to show me where some good-old soldering points are for some red leds (3.3v?), on a lite-on drive.
 thanks, bozoy

I found this on xbox-scene it might be of use, you would want to use the 5v rail and a resistor to get the 3.3v

thats for the hdd, lighting the dvd drive isnt very common, so you might have a hard time finding diagrams. your best bet would be to poke around with a multimeter.

haha oops totally read it the wrong way.  well the only real way I could see it is to snag power off the mobo and have them on a disconnect for when you need to take the drive out.

Here is a link in the tut section that has all the mobo power locations by RDC Mobo power and you could possibly use your multimeter and find some power spots on the dvd drive moobo where the sata cable attaches to the board and steal a 5v line directly from there.
Here this has all the connector pinouts, page 9 has the dvd drive sata cable so that would be a good start to start using the meter to check voltages.
