Logitech G500/Razer Deathadder Trackball Conversion HELP
« on: September 30, 2011, 07:50:56 PM »
Hey guys, need some help with this mod as I have no real knowledge on how laser mice work. I currently use the logitech m570 wireless trackball mouse(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104407). Trackballs are the only kind of mouse I can use, the m570 and the trackman wheel are the only 2 that work for me. The problem is that the m570's dpi maxes out at 1200 and the trackman wheel quit less, this makes gaming hard since I have limited finger movement. So the plan is to get a higher dpi mouse and mount the trackball & socket to the laser sensor of a gaming mouse. Why do I need higher dpi? Because currently it takes 2 rolls of the ball to get from 1 side of the screen to other, having higher dpi will decrease how far the ball needs to be rolled.

So today I opened a laser mouse I had laying around and removed the circuit and removed the lens. I gently bent the led/laser back and positioned the opening of the ball socket over it. I then tried putting the ball in the socket and rolled it, I got nothing but I now know why. The laser shines into the lens, the lens shines light onto table/surface and back into a microchip with a very small opening. So what I did was roll the trackman wheels red ball with black dots on top of the lens, it barely worked. I then tried rolling the m570's solid blue ball on top of the lens, was way better. The biggest problem I'm having is getting the socket positioned over the lens, while maintaining proper tracking. I think if I can get the socket to stay still in the right spot, it'll track ball nearly if not perfect.

Here's a link of the logitech g500 disassembled:

I already bought the g500 and a deathadder.

Does anyone have any idea's or can tell me how to accomplished this?

Thanks,
