Laptop Data Transfer
« on: August 27, 2011, 02:10:16 PM »
Ok so i have this Laptop that was my aunts and its completely dead it turns on and everything but the gfx card in it is messed up, but any ways there are important files on the laptop that she needs. Now here is my issue, i transferred files from laptops all the time you just plug it into a desktop and transfer the files over but this is what got me and i dont want to mess it up because theres important stuff that i need to get off it. The laptop is running a 2 Hard drive system and iv never worked with anything like that. is there just a main one and the other one if for back up? or how would i transfer the data off it without screwing it up.

just plug it in and use a data recovery program or use procexp to see all the files.

Dude... Go buy a fifty dollar external hard drive. Pop it open.  Inside is a sata to usb adapter... Plug the hard drive in, bam usb hard drive.

If it was running in a Raid format that wasn't Mirrored. Good luck trying to pull  data off one drive. Your gonna need to pop those Drives in a Raid controller and pull the information off that way.

I was gonna say most likely one drive was for back up. I have seen a few sony viao's with the dual hdd system. Sorry I just seen this post today.

bleh. yeah i know this is old and whatnot.
it had more than 1 partition on the hard drive.
lots of laptops have it like this so there is a partition for regular and one for backup and stuff.
My systems:  -PSP 2001, CFW and PSP 3000 shell.  -PSP 1001, LED mods, custom firmware, speaker mods, sound reactive LEDs.  -Black NDSL, LED mod, 0.5x and 2x speed mod.

... if it is a striped raid then you'd have to track down another computer with the same raid drivers cause not all raid cards are the same and they set up the drives differently but if it is not a raid then just use Microsoft sync toy 2.1

If you have ever taken apart a USB Western Digital external hard drive there is a circuit board and Hard drive inside.
You just swap the blank hard drive with your PC's hard drive and then connect the USB port into your laptop.... wah-lah you connected your PC's hard drive to your laptop.
