I've had the same problem before. i have a slim 4gb model. And i thought it was the hdd, i later found out it was actually the 4gb module. i had it replaced and now again it is doing the same thing. Now i completely remove the module and it works just fine.

Edit #1 the slim would have to be opened as the module sits under the disc drive.

i had a slim with a busted disk drive, after taking it apart and swapping over the disk drive... it was red dotting on me... i double checked all the connections... and the hdd was a little loose... a pushed it back together.. put a bit of tpe to secure it better and now the red dot it gone...

a mate of mine bought a brand new gow3 slim that red dotted everynow and then the first week he had it... but only when he used the new hhd he put his old hdd in it and it was fine... (he later returned it to the shop... they gave him a new one)

in summary the red dot is just a standard warning light... u need to checkthe actual error code... just like we used to do on the phat 360... that'll tell you the problem.... and google is the answer... google the slim error codes... there out there somewhere... i found them once....

Sigs made by Ken and blazin from the AM Art team cheers guys.....

Let us know rodent and sammy. I swear no one else is having this problem but me. I tried asking everyone else but none are having this issue. Also I do have an original 250gb Microsoft hdd it was for the phat but I switched it to the slim case.

yes sammy the slim also have the secondary error code just like the phats
dont think the memory unit would be at fault due to even removing it the system will still boot acts like a flash drive in other words
if not just reflow it drip some no clean flux under the cpu/gpu and reflow away well that really should be the last resort

It could be like when the phats will get the rrod, and when you take off the harddrive it boots fine...

aww crap  poop

Guess i gotta reflow my slim. Was playing cod last night without the 4gb module and the screen went all vertical/horizontal lines on me. Then it would not turn back on. Just sitting there with a red dot.

Edit: Rodent, would your reflow tutorial work on a slim as well?

yes the a normal reflow will work if you dont have a hot air machine at hand get a griddle and prop the board on it set it to the highest temp on the griddle
and get some no clean flux do this before u turn the griddle on and drip under the cpu/gpu and hit it with a heat gun for about a min or so and let it cool down
then add some artic silver 5 and re test
i had the same problem once with a rdod on a slim after a messing with it for 3 days with no results i did a simple reflow and it worked guess something small was causing the issue just because the board was redesigned they still fail

Yes it should just keep on watch on your temps . too much heat can damage the gpu... really i would try like 300 degrees at the most . solder will melt around 225 degrees  if you do like 3D0 said you should be fine also turn the giiddle all the way like to 400 degrees... that way the heat is evenly thru out the motherboard.

any recommendation on a reflow station that wont break the bank? or would a heat gun/griddle suffice. I will be doing a few repairs.
