so to my understanding 4 red lights means that the AV cable is disconnected right? my brother just told me that one of his friends has a broken xbox that shows 4 red lights. he wants to sell it for pretty cheap but i just wanted to make sure there wasnt other types of 4 red lights before i get it

Well the 4 red ring can mean a hardware issue.

 There is a hidden error code which should research.

 To look at what error type turn on the xbox wait till the red ring flash hold the "sync" button and then press the "disc eject button".

You should see a set of flashes.



All four lights flashing - 0

One light flashing - 1

Two Lights flashing - 2

Three lights flashing - 3

There is 4 sequence of flashes which should give four set of number like 0001

Once you have the error down do a quick google search this should tell you basicly what the main issue could be with the xbox

4 red rings usually indicates a bad av cable or its just probably loose. it can also mean a bad hana chip but that is unlikely.

4 Red Rings is xenon console with no av cable plugged in or the cable is bad you dont get 4 Red rings on  a hdmi unit.
