PSP locked up
« on: February 22, 2008, 09:16:58 AM »
First post...hey everybody!
Just bought three PSPs form a guy with anger management problems.
All three were thrown into something at sometime during fits of rage.
Fortunatley only one broken lcd.
The one i'm working on now doesnt completely turn on.
It will power on, the green led will come on and I can see the lcd backlight come on as well but no sound.
It will stay on for several minutes and then finally power off.
If i want to power it off myself, I need to hold the power button for around 14 seconds before the unit will power down...strange.
The screen doesn't appear to be cracked either.

Any thoughts on where i should look?

This guy wasn't smart enough to modify the firmware.

Is it possible that this was bricked when running oem firmware?

I actually hope this is bricked and not a motherboard problem.
All three psp's had the warranty sticker still on them.
From what I can tell, I can get at least two of them working just with the parts from them.
The cosmeted damage to all three is pretty bad.
The cases(front and back) need to be replaced on two of them and I will need several trim pieces if I want to get all of them up and running and looking cosmetically good.
I ordered two clear(front and back) cases and will probably led mod both of them.
The third one just may end up being a donor unit.
I am an electronic tech by trade so I'm not afraid to get into them but all this SMT stuff is a little daunting.
I paid $70 for all three with 3 chargers and a few soft cases.

Wow you got one hell of a deal dude. 1 working psp on craigslist with charger is at CHEAPEST $100.

You can just part those and like sell them for a fortune lol.

I think you can get like 50+ for 1 mobo alone
