well there is no real way to explain what it is, all it is realy is the operating parts of 1.5, the things like drivers and other stuff like that.

its for people who use old homebrew that hasnt been updated, you dont realy need it as new homebrew is being made for 3.x kernal

The 1.5 kernal is neccesary if you use homebrew such as...    avd_sfds% + avd_sfds
(those were examples of directory folders related to homebrew)

To make it easy for you, 1.5 kernal lets you run a lot of the older homebrew. Most homebrew need 1.5. A lot of Plugins use it also. You don't need it if you aren't using those things, but I would suggest getting it anyway.

And you don't need the 1.50 kernel to make a Pandora. Like I said earlier, there are new homebrew coming out that don't need 1.50 kernal. Hellcatz' Pandora maker can be used on a Phat without 1.50 kernel and the Slim.
