usb charge batterys

have double A batteries laying around there rechargeable i read on the side of one and it says 1.2v/2000mah so what i wanted to do was hook this all up and hook up a female usb2 but the usb port throws out about 5v how can i reduce the voltage to lets say 2.4v?(by the way i posted this up on the 360 section)

resistors, but you run the risk of blowing up the batteries

with out a proper charging circuit there is a risk the batteries would not stop charging and explode. its not a simple as putting 2.4 to one side of them.
