Wiring 8 LED's
« on: February 26, 2008, 07:04:21 PM »
Just wondering. Isnt something like this too messy?? since I dont feel like dremmeling away at my umd door. i was thinking something like this will look nice..

Is there anyway that i can make this neateR?

What i was thinking of, drilling holes on the silver ring + UMD door. But what would look better? 4 LED with 8 holes? or 8 LED with 8 holes?  Meaning. North, South, East, West of the siver ring has LED and the NE, NW, SE, SW leaching off the lights of N, S, E and W. (All this will be soldered to the hold switch.)

Any inputs appreciated. (I like to draft what i do before i start. Then i have a clear picture in my head)

If you paralleled i dont think so. 1led makes the whole jewel bright, i dont know why you want 8 though

Edit: Meant series wiring, sorry.

wire them in series instead.  it will save you a lot of wire, and time.

I forgot to add in the resistor, but you already know to put that in.

LOL makes me wonder as well, the and the best answer i have in mind.. they look more "leet" :P

but come to think of it, its abit of wasting resources right? So if i put the LED in the middle and drill the holes on the umd door, id still get the same "leet" effect?

* i quote leet cause i have no other word to use. Currently in office and trying to de-stress =)

You just have too many leds. Use 4 dude, if youre gonna overuse, might as well use 15 or something lol

if you're gonna have 8 leds, wire them in parallel. In a series configuration you'd need more than 8*(1.8)= 14.4V (at least for red leds with a voltage drop of 1.8V each) just to turn them on.

The idea is PvP's, I designed it with AdamThole's version as a guideline

since 8 seems abit too much for my umd door. i was wanting to do 4. 4 led's in a series circuit wont cut it.

what i dont get is, so a big loop in parallel? any pictures to guide me? (when i see loops, i think of series.)

if u wire them in series they wont be equaly lit paralell makes them all the same brightness
